It was better to give anonymously than to flaunt your gift but nowadays, things are not like that anymore. People tend to show off what they've given and expects people to be amazed. The more expensive it was, the more it will gain lots of "Ooh," "Aahh," & "Wow's."

this trend is not a modern disease. If you see the antiques.. and the old declarations.. you will find that the trouble had been coming from the biblican times, and even before.
The rich try to exhibit their philanthropy! ... but, never bother to compensate the poor properly.
