I like feeling sorry for him

My great aunt told my mom this when they were talking about an ex-coach who was fired YEARS ago. "Put him out in the rain" she always claims, though there is no evidence of that claim. However, this ex-coach is doing well for himself. He got a new job and led his team to the championship, he has recently retired and is now doing several book tours and several other business deals. This man is not suffering at all. Yet, my great aunt doesn't want to hear it. Instead she "likes feeling sorry for him." She doesn't want to hear about his success. She wants to dwell on the event of managers of his old team "put him our in the rain."
It is really bizarre to me that someone would rather pity someone than hear about the good things. She enjoys feeling sorry for people. Do you know people like this? No matter what, they dwell on the bad things just so they can feel sorry for others.

Is it your aunt or your mom who likes feeling sorry for people? anyway , i think she's the one to be pitied on, because i think she lives a miserable life. she loves to convince herself that her life is so much better that those people whom she feels sorry for.... which is not always the case I suppose. Anyway, i feel sorry for this woman who seems to be jealous at other people who are successful :(
