Since I moved from Mackay to the Sunshine Coast, it seems to be when I'm packing up the house, I will de-clutter at the same time & throw things out & give away things theough freecycle...before then, I used to go through my things every 6-12 months & get rid of things I didn't need/want...how about you? How often do you go through your things?

We seem to do it every year or two here. Not on any regular basis, but just when things crop up which require us to de-clutter in order to find more space. We have recently done a clean out as we are selling our home and wanted to make the place look neater and have less stuff to move. We sold some stuff, Freecycled other things.
The last time that I had a big clean out was when I put up a storage shed in our backyard. Our business was taking over the house so we needed to get rid of some stuff from the garage so that we could fit all the boxes in there. As I was cleaning the garage out I realised that I had heaps of junk that I had been hoarding but never used, so out it went!

Do you want to drive to my place & help me???
I have a box that permanently stays near my front door...everytime I nearly empty it, it fills up with more stuff to freecycle
I think I need an unbiasesd person to go through everything

Maybe that's what I have to do - get angry with the stuff because it takes up too much room!

Sometimes we need someone with no emotional attachment to the stuff to help clear it out. It was hard to throw out some things that I had hung onto for years. I just had to get angry with it and throw the anger out with it.

I de-clutter every time I am due for an inspection , as I am renting and we have inspections every 3 months or so. When I have cleaned out every thing I usually have a garage sale and earn a few dollars for the junk I would normally throw out.

Yeah, the inspections are ok here & because my house is so old, they just ask me if there are any problems with it lol...here in Queensland, you have your first inspection normally 6 weeks after moving in & then every 6 months from there.

I try to do that too as I rent as well...I'm lucky though as our insections are only 6 monthly.

I really like to read about how to do the clutter clearing. Then I get on with the clutter clearing every eight to twelve weeks. Then I can keep on top of the order in my house. I send some things that I don't wish to keep to the local charity shop. Some of the things I put in the bin. I think Free Cycle sounds like a great idea and my sister has been to it. I will soon be moving to a bungalow so I need to sort out all my things ready for moving. I have visited beautiful Queensland when I traveled around the world.

I have a couple ofclutter books I inherited from my mom but I still haven't gotten around to reading them yet...Freecycle is a great way to get rid of your unwanted things & maybe even gain things you need/want.
Where in Queensland did you visit?

I usually go through my house once a month and get rid of stuff that I don't need or want anymore.

For me I think it just happens when I get really fed up, with having to move things to get to things, or I just get fed up with all the clutter, I go on a mad clearout of the house, and get rid of all those things that I just don't use anymore. My problem is that I am a bit of a horder though, and I actually find it hard to throw some things away, but I know in my mind that I have to, so I have to just bite the bullet and do away with things...
Best part of it is, that once it has gone, I don't even miss it, I have never said to myself... oh I wish I hadn't of chucked that out now lol so I guess that is a good thing for me as it proves that I can chuck out stuff that I feel I want to keep just for the sake of keeping it.

I am a bit of a hoarder myself - well my hubby says so anyway lol. I do have to admit that I have gotten rid of quite alot of stuff in the past 3 years - mainly my mom's stuff that I inherited when she passed away but I still have heaps of crap I guess you could say...I only got rid of my uni stuff about 4 months ago & I left uni in 1997!!
