my brother was a pc gaming addict, he spend most of his time playing,we don't have our own pc,so he always went to internet cafe, my mother was always mad at my brother because he spends his allowance on the net, & when the time he needs money for going to school, he'd ask again money from my mother, what a very irresponsible brother i have. He didn't even help doing household chores, cause all day his away. My mother always complains about this, nagging my brother than eventually all of us,she said that my brother was killing her little by little.I hope not, my mom has hypertension. If you're one of the computer addicts, was it really that addictive?

when I was just starting out in college, I became addicted to computer games and was really quite a headache to my parents, they used to nag me almost everyday because I go home late and sometimes, especially on weekends, I do not go home at all. I was young back then and I didn't really think much of the future, I was like living my life with my friends and enjoying every minute of it. I didn't really care back then how my mom will scold me or how she would beg me not to spend my allowance on gaming. However, there was one time when she didn't give me allowance and told me that I have to do with whatever she gave me the other week because she didn't have any money left. I only had a few hundred pesos and still had to stretch it for 2 weeks. It still did not stop me from playing, until I almost did not have any money left and I still had a week to go, I literally had to walk to school for 20 minutes everyday for almost a week just because I spent all my money mostly on gaming. It was really hard back then because I couldn't even eat in school, i had to go home just to eat. That time I was able to realize how hard life could be and that I am still lucky that my parents are still there for me. I think your brother will be able to realize that mistake and will eventually come to his senses,it might just take time though..

some time, i will work till late night and so that is one way that i am in addict with my pc but that is not the correct.so i use sleep earlier and in the morning i will wake earlier and work so that it stop me form being addicted and now i do my work for the time and i travel with my time so there is no word for addicted.i think you have to make your brother to go with time and ask him to do other family work so that you can change him and i am sure it is not the easy task..

gracielle hi I am a computer addict but not to silly games, but to more serious things like mylot and as I am retired, my addiction is totally harmless. In fact it keeps me from going bananas from not having anything worthwhile to do. your brother was being a young kid and even with shirking household jobs he was not into anything bad, just time wasting . Not having a pc at home made the internet cafe a forbidden joy. If he had had a computer of his own he might soon have found more useful ways of spending his time. but it seems to me like you all expect him to act like an adult instead of a kid. And your mother should relax a bit as that is not the most awful addictions, in fact in time he will learn to use a computer in ways that could be very helpful to your mom. A computer can be a very useful tool to further his education.

I think it's a phase teenagers goes too. He has to have household chores done before being given an allowance. Also, do check on his grades in school. Some even ditch school just to play the whole day and then their grades suffer. At 18 he needs to be getting a job too. ;) I have lots of friends w/ teenager kids who didn't get to finish college/ or finished college late because their son got addicted to gaming. Look out for him.

I do like playing games on computer. I have my own laptop and whenever a game comes out, I try it out for some days but after that I get bored and just stop playing. I don't waste much of my time on a game. It is usually a day to a whole week depending on the game. But playing the game all day long and everyday is just not good.

Simply because it's fun! :D I get to meet a lot of friends and I dunno, I just do it to kill time. Sometimes, I even go beyond sleeping hours when playing my favorite online game. These games are also a source of cash, like if you have 10 billion zennies or a really high level cool account, you could sell it your friends for like 10,000 PHP.

Yes... Ragnarok players sell their hardcore accounts for some cash. Even dota players gamble often. They sort of make bets on who wins that sort of stuff.. My boyfriend is a regular player and whenever he wins he just takes the money and they make "tagay" or they buy some drinks and drink till the wee hours of the morning.

It's addicting because earning 'money' and getting 'prestige' is a lot easier in online games than in real life. There's a certain street-cred when saying that you have a level-something-something character and you've been to so-so area. But, of course, these are only make-believe. Although I know of people who sells online items for real cash, it really isn't enough to sustain living expenses. Will he outgrow it? I'm not sure. But probably it's for the best if you could dangle the carrot a little and say that if he'll get good grades for the semester then your family might consider buying him a computer. Now the trick to it is really to have him motivated enough to study for a particular goal. Reinforcement still works, so you can try this out.
