Are you a pack rat too?

Today is my birthday. I'm 29 today, and as usual the birthday has me thinking about life in general.
I'm a packrat. I have TONS of random stuff. Some stuff I've kept forever and will never, ever, ever have a use for. So I decided to do what I'm calling a Pack Rat Purge and toss a bunch of things.
Are you a pack rat too? Have you ever had a moment where you decided to get rid of a lot of things you've hoarded away?

I used to be quite a pack rat. I have gotten a lot better over the last few years. Just a few moves and it kinda takes it out of you!
i've gotten to where if I don't use it then I don't keep it!

It seems that people seem to be less of pack rats as they age instead of when they are younger. Except my husband, he's even worse than me. I can't get him to agree to toss anything out.

Thanks for the birthday wishes.
I keep craft stuff too. Part of what I was thrwing out was random snips of string, thread and ribbon that I was keeping "just in case" I could ever use them for a project.

i used to be a pack rat when i was single now that i am married for 7 years getting or collecting things was controlled so far. if i grab a chance then i do it but can not over do it for my wife will throw away things that she knows we dont use or sell it. har har har. so far i only have what i need and when i dont i keep it in neat boxes and keep it nicely so it wont be clutter. i decided to get rid of things when i was about to live with my wife. we live for three years before we got married. the apartment was small and my things wont fit in if i bring even the ones i like but i dont need.... well what can i say i am a gadget boy i love to have gadgets

My husband is even a bigger pack rat than me, but I don't dare throw any of his things away. He still has toys from when he was a little boy over 40 years ago!

I guess I can describe myself as being a bit of a packrat. I do like to acquire things more than tossing them out. But I'm not to the point where I absolutely have to keep everything for some reason. Once in a while I'll go through all my things and toss out the stuff I don't need (school work from years past and such). I think I might be overdue for another cleaning session in the next few months. I'm just glad I'm not as bad as some of those people that are shown on that one show on TV.

I used to be a pack rat. I used to keep just about anything as a remembrance. Then I got tired of the clutter and cleaning my room became difficult because there are too many things I keep. Thus, I have started giving away things that are still useful, throw away those that are not and discipline myself not to keep nor buy useless things.
Happy birthday, nonersays!

How well is it working for you teaching yourself not to keep or buy useless things?

Please, please, please get rid of as much STUFF as you possibly can! I'll tell you why. I come from a line of packrats and I inherited the main house where it was stored. As a result, when we moved across half the U.S. most of that stuff had to come with us. There just wasn't time to sort it all. It has cost us plenty both to move it and to store here. We are now in the process of trying to get rid of most of it out of necessity because we can't afford to keep it. Don't let it happen to you or those who come after you!!

Wow, I'm not sure I would have moved so much stuff so far! I might have left it behind without sorting. Nothing like a long trip to get rid of my pack rat tendancies.
