I still use MSG to taste my dishes. Is this risky to my family's health?

There is no scientific evidence that small amounts of MSG will cause any harm to the average human. The issue tends to be more in what MSG is usually included in - snacks, processed foods, and Chinese food. In these cases, it is the overeating or general lack of nutrition that causes people to get headaches or otherwise feel ill.

Healthmad is a website that publishes unedited, user submitted articles - so essentially, it is opinion based, not fact based.

Hello lingaypaculdar! Like what the other member said below, there's no scientfic evidence that MSG can harm our body. Even those foods that you think is safe when you eat too much would be bad to our body. So I would say just moderation in using it wouldn't be bad.

I have only heard of people being allergic to the MSG. My mother kept MSG on her shelf but we rarely used it. One of the seasonings I use semi-regularly is Johnny's Seasoning Salt which I discovered does contain MSG. Maybe that's one reason why it's so yummy. MSG stands for "MonoSodium Glutemate" which means it has sodium in it and any sodium, when used to excess, is bad for us but if we limit its use, I don't see how it's all that bad to use.
