I haven't tried motion gaming yet and like you don't think it would be very good in games I play. I don't grasp how it would work with RPG gaming and that is most of the games I like. With the invention of the 3D television now I'm sure 3D games will be close behind and I think that would be wonderful.

I tried a motion game in Wii. It was just Mario kart so all I did was hold a steering wheel Wii controller. This is old tech. Anyway, just to satisfy your curiosity, I don't think football and basketball wouldn't be a "motion game" anytime soon. It's a team sport involving a huge space. They'll have a hard time mimicking the real-life thing on that. What we have now are 1-man sports and sports that require a little space for the player to move in, like Golf. Though Golf requires a huge playing area, the player just needs small space to swing the Golf-Club console controller. No balls needed.
There are a lot of arcade games now that require motion to play. This started when Dance Dance Revolution became one of the most popular games for the Sony PlayStation 1. Dance Dance revolution just required the feet to move, step on the correct arrows to "dance". This technology evolved and now there are arcade games where you use your hands, legs and feet to dance. Some beginners just use their hands, but most pro players use their lower bodies to dance on that machine. There's also this boom for drum playing games, and now, guitar (because of the increasing popularity of Guitar Hero) which now gave way to "band-playing" in arcades and other gaming consoles (like RockBand and new releases under the "-Hero" title).
There are also arcade fighting games that simulate the real thing. Among the old technologies are shooting games. I played an arcade shooting game 2 years ago where you need to literally "duck for cover". It was fun! I also played a sword-fighting game. I was a samurai and I had a samurai in my hand. I need to slash my enemies to kill them. It was fun, but also tiring for my arms!
All in all, I think there are still areas for improvement and more games to be released. Motion-games are now invading the fitness and sports world which will give gyms a run for their money, which I think is good because it will make kids exercise more and parents to play more :)
