Volunteers ready but left out of spill cleanup
BP and the Obama administration face mounting complaints that they are ignoring foreign offers of equipment and making little use of the fishing boats and volunteers available to help clean up what may now be the biggest spill ever in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Coast Guard said there have been 107 offers of help from 44 nations, ranging from technical advice to skimmer boats and booms. But many of those offers are weeks old, and only a small number have been accepted, with the vast majority still under review, according to a list kept by the State Department.
And in recent days and weeks, for reasons BP has never explained, many fishing boats hired for the cleanup have done a lot of waiting around.
A report prepared by investigators with the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform for Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., detailed one case in which the Dutch government offered April 30 to provide four oil skimmers that collectively could process more than 6 million gallons of oily water a day. It took seven weeks for the U.S. to approve the offer.

Is it not time that politics and greed end as the bottom line in this terrible disaster. Obama and his sleazy administration showed more help and humanitarian actions towards foreign countries that suffered disasters than our own country. The suffering of the people and the wildlife are obviously of not concern to these money loving S.O.Bs
What do you think the reasons are for this lack of action on this disaster by B.P. and Obama????

One reason that I can think of ya have to be careful of who we let in our waters as some might offer to be more of a hinderonce or what to create more confusing.
Have to make sure the ones we let in are here really to help and not do more damage or be in a posstion to attacked our shores

I really do not think that is a good enough excuse. Our Coast Guard are no dummies and they have been patrolling the area since day one.

Hi whiteheather!
The only thing I can say is "that's the US government for you!" because it makes me sick to watch it all unfold. In truth, nobody is doing anything to stop this fiasco and nothing is going to be done except maybe 'oh, we'll add a few extras in for the show' nothing more and nothing less. In fact when Jesse Ventura had his own show exposing different things about our government, he found that the government is trying to kill off some of the population! So if that were true, which I do believe, why should they care about the oil spill? It's just another cover up to kill some of us off.

There are approx. 447 U.S. skimmers out there with crews working 24/7 fighting to contain this spill yet you believe that nothing is going on? In what way do you believe this plan to kill us off will unfold and which of the gulf states will be involved?

As sick and twisted as it sounds, I really think it was for political reasons. He showed his "anger" but wouldnt take necessary steps to fix it. It also bears mentioning that he is trying to push through a ridiculous Energy bill. What timing. I think he listens to Rahm and wont let a good disaster go to waste. After all of the bad mouthing about Bush and Katrina, well lets just say, I bet people would have preferred somebody who could set aside politics and done something.

I totally agree and I do not think this government will stop trying to bring this great nation of ours to its knees!

Screw outside help, we should of had the navy on this from day one and took this entirely out of BP's hands. If you look at the oil spill that happened in 1979 we are doing all the same stupid things once again when we should have went straight to drilling relief wells which was the only thing that solved it last time. I agree with laglen they are using this to justify their energy policy and push new tax agenda which is going to be put on the common people and let big business have their way even more.

What better way to take our minds off the rape of the Constitution than an environmental disaster such as this? The long it stays on the radar, the more distracted we are. The "A Whale" remains docked in Virginia awaiting approval by the EPA--the oil all those boats have sucked up in 70+ days would have been processed in 1 DAY by that ship!!
Like Laglen said, it's political. Our current administration is not concerned about the welfare of the people of this country because their agenda depends on our helplessness and poverty and breaking our spirit as they bankrupt the country. Then they can impose their Marxist government, which has never worked anywhere on earth.

dragon54u Since day one I have been convinced that this disaster is being used as a political tool and also to keep us distracted from all the other nefarious deals going on with Obama and his henchmen.

It's HUGE! I don't understand the delay, though. Even if there's some oil left in the water it returns to the Gulf, isn't it better than the saturation the water has now? We can always go back later and re-filter it. The water with a little oil will kill less wildlife and than the oily water we now have. I just don't get it.

Isn't that thing a monster? It's as big as 3 1/2 football fields.
It belongs to a Taiwanese Company and is in the Gulf right now but it's oil removal processes are untested because it was recently refitted as a skimmer. So the Coast Guard has to run some tests to determine how much oil residue will be in the water discharged back into the Gulf after filtration. There was also a delay in getting her into position because of the rough waters caused by the hurricane.

It's my understanding that the leaking oil is very toxic, so BP make be thinking of the additional liability involved if volunteers help with the cleanup. Leave the cleanup in the hands of the professionals who are probably licensed and bonded, I think, would take the liability off BP if anyone gets sick or injured as a result of toxins in the oil. I think Obama wants an excuse to stop any drilling in or around our country and thus make us more dependent on foreign oil producers.

Add the US Senate and Congress to the list, too! Anyway I know BP is run by a moron they call their CEO! It must trickle down because it looks like the whole company is run by moron's! I can't answer why Obama is doing such a lousey job with this oil spill. Maybe what my first line says has alot to do with it! The President just doesn't run the USA,the congress and Senate do too!
