Paul the Octopus that is! He is quite a celebrity in Germany and had correctly predicted all of Germany's results in the World Cup, which is why the public over there are a bit upset because he predicted Spain to beat them!
Anyway, at the aquarium they decided to let him predict the winner of the World Cup Final between Spain and Holland and I'm pleased to say that he picked Spain...in record time I might add! Sometimes he can take up to 70 minutes to pick a winner, bless 'im.
One downside of Germany losing is that Paul has had extra security cameras installed as his keepers don't want anything nasty to happen to him. In German newspapers they were coming up with suggestions on how he should be cooked.

I don't believe in predictions but I think the way he chose teams to win is really cute.. they shouldn't take Paul too seriously, but I must say he has become quite the celebrity, oh yes..

I wasn't happy at Brazil being knocked out either and Spain do have an entertaining way of playing like they do..so I'm with you on this one.

He's been all over the news channels...and its unbelieveable that paul managed to grab the attention of soccer fans picking the winners in advance.I have seen german's hating...hoping that paul's prediction should go wrong in that crucial match but it didn't.great day.

He's adorable. I like his eyes the best. I believe he has a way of looking at people when they come to see him that made the keepers thought he "may have a talent" lol.
He's certainly proved that...more than once!

I lived for 10 years in Weymouth, and can't recall ever seeing him. Did he come from the Sea Life centre in Weymouth? Now and again we do get guys his size off the piers in both Weymouth and Bournemouth, I presume that they sometimes lose their way?

To be honest I don't know the full details of how he came to be in Germany from Weymouth but I do know that he's been in Germany for 2 years. I reckon he could well be from Weymouth's Sea Life Centre but don't quote me on it!

Yes I saw that on the news, really that Octopus should really be ours, lol! poor thing, he is so cute, if he was ours, then we would have known that we would not win the world cup.

Well, that's true..I'd not thought of it like that! Would've saved all that hype beforehand which drove me mad lol.
I have mixed feelings about Paul being in that Aquarium..I know the likes of PETA reckon he's stressed..but as he's given things to do (they call it "enrichment") his life should be more bearable...and it helps us to understand how intelligent he is.
His keepers reckon he wouldn't survive in the wild now as he's not used to finding his own food.
I only hope he doesn't end up on a table somewhere but his keepers reckon he's there to stay.

Hi janey,
Can you please tell whether it is just a coincidence or it will always predict correctly...
Because when I saw this in news channel I really surprised..I immediately messaged my friend and asked him , he said it is just coincidence...But I can't believe that..I'm still confused...I;m happy that it picked spain in finals...I like Holland too..because I like Robben in that team..Anyway it is going to be a good match...

No, he doesn't always predict correctly and this is the first time he's predicted a match not involving Germany, which is interesting in itself.
With the German team he has an 80% success rate and that includes the Euros a couple of years ago as well.
He really is a clever octopus!
