Are they? When you hear the term American do you think of White people, Black people, Asians, or Native American? If I ask myself that question I would say the Whites, I'm not sure why but that is what comes to my mind. I wouldn't say that Americans are stupid. It is just that many kids here are not interested in school while they are young. When they get old they get serious with school. Why would you say that Americans are stupid?

I don't think there's anything wrong if they're not interested in school when they were young. Americans have the reputation to fully enjoy their lives. And they have a different age bracket for young. What's already old to us, is still young to them. They don't really have to worry about finishing school or getting a degree yet, this is because there are a lot of job opportunities in their country. And they're taking advantage of that to enjoy life while they have the time to. =)

I don't think they are enjoying their youth as much. Many of them get jobs while in school to buy stuff they want. In school they are tired and they cannot focus as much. Maybe its fun but it's not that fun later making loans and stuff for college. I'm good I got scholarship they did not. Once you earn 5k or more from working you have to pay taxes which means you got to work while studying. This doesn't apply to everyone but those who don't balance their time for school and work.

I would say that rather than classify a Nation into an intelligence category, its more to do with the race and the child environment they are brought up in. If an extremely bright child is bought up in a family who seems to have suceeded in life with minimum education then that child may not have any desire to attend school. His low academic achievement may be judged as stupidity by some. Where I live in Japan there are a mixture of intelligent and dumb people, but everyone is encouraged to put 101% into there studies to achieve highest possible academic level for future employment. In America this encouragement may not be there.

I would not say that all Americans are stupid. Although, I would say that the U.S. has a failed education system. I really didn't learn much of anything until I got to college, which is pretty sad. I felt like middle school and high school were just a big waste of time.

You are the proof. I think its the lack of motivation that makes it hard for kids to love studying.

As an American, I feel like this is all to true. I mean, there are times where I wonder where we have gone so wrong. I have encountered some real winners in my day. For all of you people who only deal with us Americans in passing and every now and again, just imagine dealing with your worst possible imagined stereotype of an American on a day to day basis and weep, just weep. I think that not everyone is stupid. Its just that some lack the proper motivation and that leads to them not coming across as all that intelligent. After all, if you feel like you don't need to achieve anything, then you will be destined to a bland, unfulfilled life. I think people do not take school seriously. There were times where I was young where I kind of pushed it to the back but considering what I see with some people, perhaps I did take it more seriously than the average person. At least that's the way I see things.
