Here is an update about my work situation.

Our employer HR representative called us today, and apologized because there is not the work they anticipated when they hired us. They are only having out of state work for the most part right now. Hubby and I and others are not getting any work. Sandy, the HR lady said that we should file for unemployment and list our status as temporarily laid off, and the company would not contest it. I should be approved. There is some question about hubby, but that is a different story. I have never, ever filed for unemployment before, but I was able to do it online. We are hoping that business picks up for this company fairly soon. We would rather be working. However, if we get unemployment, it will free us up to not worry quite so much. Have you ever filed for unemployment? Does your state do it online? There were even employment lists linked on the unemployment website. I thought that was great.

I keep expecting the worst, or doubting until I get it. It will still be a week or two, but we still have a little reserve left. I just keep on typing away.

Yes oh gosh yes, I had to file for the first time in my entire 19+ yrs working with a company. I did so online and then I had to call them after like 3 1/2 weeks because I had not received a response. So please make sure you follow up with them but good luck getting through on the phone as they never answer at least here in US.
Anyways, I have been fighting an ongoing 7 month battle and going to court next week as imagine 19+ years and massive lay-off which really makes for another story, but imagine that no absolute income for the last 7 months. By the way you can also report your job hunting requirements biweekly thing via online also... Technology is so convenient.
Good luck to you and I understand about your hubby situation, but what are we suppose to do.

I filed for unemployment after being terminated due to an injury and I did not get unemployment. They say that the company had legitimate reason for letting me go. I do not feel that they did as I was injured and the company cancelled my insurance due to it.
I wish you luck on getting yours.

Yes, I have filed for unemployment, but I have to go to the Career Center or Department of Labor to sign up. Unless my employee does it for me. Then I can claim it every week online or by landline phone. It is a good thing to have for temporary income when you are out of work for no reason of your own. I was blessed to have unemployment benefits when the company I was working for closed. Now my unemployment benefits has ran out. Now I am in the hand of God.

I did it once a long time ago before they did anything online yet. When I was between teaching jobs, I once worked for a financial company that was unexpectedly bought out by another firm and they brought all their own people in, so the old company gave us all letters and told us to go file for unemployment. I remember not being too happy about it at the time, but they explained that we had all been paying into the system and that was supposed to be part of our compensation so we were entitled to it. It turned out to be really neat because filing for the unemployment qualified me for some job training in a field that I had been interested in way back when they didn't allow women to do that kind of work, so I got a second chance and entered the class as the only women with, R U ready, 69 men as classmates and a male teacher as well. I graduated 2nd highest and got to break a glass ceiling by getting hired in that field, which did pay a whole bunch more than teaching.

Aww, I'm so sorry that didn't work out for you and your hubby. Times are bad out there GG and I'm sure you know this all the way.
I filed once back in 2006 because I was laid off permanently from my job. I called first, but then the rest I did online and it was very convenient. I received half of what I made, and I think that's still how it works but I'm not positive.
Good luck and I hope all works out well for you, you certainly deserve it! I'm still unemployed and still can't find anything close to home. I really need a steady income but things keep going downhill. My last interview was a couple of weeks ago and I had to lift #50...if they would have told me that in the beginning, I would have never went to the interview. I can't lift anything like that anymore because of my neck. Life is so unfair sometimes but I keep on going.

I used unemployment when I was laid of in 2001. I don't remember how they did it back then. I think I mailed in forms, not sure. Now it appears you can do it online, make a phone call or mail in forms.

Yes I have used unemployment money while I was off work. I worked in a field where there were often layoffs and was never ashamed to take this help.

I had to file for unemployment back in 2001 after losing my job due o 9/11. Yes I did everything online. It was easy and then every Saturday night I would have to call employment and answer questions through automated system. Then I would receive a check by Tuesday or Wednesday. There were times that I would be called into the unemployment office to show that I was looking for employment. I had to collect for almost a year before I could find a good job. Good luck to you and your husband I hope your job calls you real soon.

Im so happy the company lets you file for unemployment. Yes we have it here and yes we can do it online also.
I have in the past been on unemployment. The last time was 7 yrs ago when I hurt my back and since I was a partime employee, I couldnt get insurance. I could only have unemployment for 20 wks though. I couldnt go back to work and because it had taken me too long to come to that conclusion, I couldnt get unemployment again.
Of course, the state is not giving us anything, we pay for it on every paycheck we get. So its like an insurance you take in case you are out of work.
Hope they get work soon for you, but in the meantime, enjoy the summer!!

oH yes, been on unemployment twice over the last few years and all was on the internet.
Just don't forget the weeks you have to report and be honest if you worked and how much you made. Our Prez extended mine by six weeks last time and my employer thought that was bad.
But I drew it anyway and then we moved here to Oklahoma.
But, take care and I hope you get work. I'd work too if I had a job. Right now I'm just toodling along !
I did hear from that one guy you wrote for tho.
I'll let ya know.

I'm so glad you qualify and hope your husband will too. I know you'd rather be working, but you need it, you've earned it, allow for it.
I've been unemployed for over a year and can't collect but am dealing, I am fortunate to have a good housemate that is carrying me until I can find something and I do what I can online to make money to keep my car insured and help with food and so forth. It's bad here with nearly 300,000 unemployed just in the metro area and I'm in a rural community nearby. And I'm in the OSU college area, and I am old, so it's tough, the sweet young things get what few jobs there are here.
Yes, here it's done online or at the office, most choose online.

I have filed for unemployment online before only because some places require that I show proof of no income. I know that in California they do it online because you can never get through the office anymore. I think you file then you get a letter either saying you get benefits or not. I think people should file to help out with the stress if you are not making any kind of income. I had a friend who was laid off from a security job so I told him to file. He said he couldn't because they had to find him another job. Weeks went by but he didn't hear about any job. As much as I tried to tell him to file he just wouldn't do it until he got an ok from his employer.
