To all Spenders out there...

...I am sorry but today I just lost a spend-all-you-can contest where my only opponent was myself. Yesterday was payday! And as a self-confessed spender myself, I was totally surprised at how I managed to stop me from buying things...even those that I claim to be NEEDS (but still WANTS if you try to really analyze) I am working on being thrifty lately and no matter how I tell myself not to spend, I always manage to drain my pockets. But this day was different! I went to the mall, I went to a bargain store, tried on some neat clothes and shoes and went to see some cool gadgets only to end up....definitely NOT frustrated over having bought nothing! Does your self weird you out sometimes?

Congratulation! This needs a drink, surely. Take a day at a time, and every success feels good.

Sometimes it does feel weird when you are trying to get into a new routine. I think maybe the body and mind need to adjust to the new behaviour. I know how tough it can be to become thrifty after being a person that spends a lot of money all the time. I had to resist the urge to spend like a person trying to get off of smoking a lot. lol.

Congratulations on disciplining yourself and stopping yourself from spending. I don't often do it, but when I do want to spend, there is no stopping me, and then I wonder why I bothered! But just think, if you can safe lots and lots of money by not spending, one day you can have a huge spending spree.. _Derek

Hi Theresaaiza! I totally understand! I am not even working and I'm spending money I can't afford to spend so take a tip from me "STOP YOURSELF NOW!" I don't even have to leave the house anymore to shop! I found the easiest way to shop is online. I used to be "afraid" to buy things like boots and shoes online, well no more! I have been so lucky buying my first pair of boot online from JCPenny that I just bought 2 psirs of sandals, delivered today, 1 priced at $17.99, the other $14.99, both fit! I can't stop myself! And I hardly go anywhere to wear all the stuff I buy because I am disabled with a bad knee and ankle! But, no matter what when I do go out I am still a "fashion queen", eveb at my age!

Lucky for me I don't have the means to shop online. I've no credit cards, no debit cards, just a paypal account with barely anything. Fashion queen! Well that's not too bad! Just because a person is broke, doesn't mean she can't be beautiful!

It's ok. A lot of us break promises we make to ourselves anyway. Just take this as an example and reset your goals again. A few ideas to help you get your budget organized though: - Always save 10% for your emergency fund - Set another fund for your spending spree (This is important because if you actually have a fund where you can spend without worry, you will fare better with your goal) - Put aside money for whatever bills you need to pay and don't touch them. - Carry a certain amount of cash with you all the time. Simply pull out the credit/debit card and slide it is not really stopping you much. Pulling out a Benjamin to buy something though is much more effective in stopping you.
