Gold Fish Question

Ok, we all know (well people that have fish do anyway) that gold fish (comets) keep growing no matter the size of the tank/aquarium that they live in. I have been advised by an expert aquarium fish breeder that the minimum size fish tank that gold fish should be in is a 2ft tank however, I forgot to ask him if it mattered about the 2ft being in length or height. I was wondering if anyone here would know? Thanks in advance.

I don't remember exactly for goldfish- what I rember about water requirement was that fish (in general) require about 1 gallon per 1/2 inch of fish so the bigger the fish the more room they need. Consequently, the more 1/2 inches of fish the more gallons (larger tank size) that you need. When I had tropicals (live bearers) I used to have about 30 fish in a 20 gallon tank. but plenty of them where small neons and guppies so I would add a couple of them up as 1 fish. :-) so what I am trying to say is: I don't think height versus length really matters- just the quantity of the water. I hope this is the case as I have just bought a 2ft tall tank from a friend but it's only about 1ft wide as I currently have a small standard 1ft tank.

I didn't know that goldfish keep growing no matter what the size of think is. I thought ALL fish grows depending on the aquarium size?? Anyway, about the size tank, your aquarist probably means that it should be atleast 2 by 2 by 2 feet. Meaning 2 feet high, 2 feet wide, and 2 feet in length. Different aquarists use different ways to describe a tank, like here in my place we use Gallons to determine the size of the tank. I'm from Philippines by the way.
