I was reading my local paper and the people living in a village were sad to get their library closed down. At the moment most of the rural libraries have been closed. It is because the local government wish to save money. Some of the villages have bought a old phone box and turned it into a library! That must be the smallest library in all of the world. Wow! Do like to visit your local library? Is a library near to where you live? What do you think of such a small library?

We are one of the fortunate ones who still have a local library in town. And it is only a few blocks away from where we live. Although I don't have personal use of it, I do appreciate it being there as it helps a lot of people get computer time as they look for jobs. Not to mention, it is a good place for kids to do homeworks without distractions. I wouldn't want a library the size of a phone booth! It should be one like ours, where it is named after some rich patron. And I think that's where it gets most of its funding.

I do like to visit my local library, which is less than a mile from my house. I also like to visit my school's library. It's quite sad that libraries close. Books are so important to expanding one's horizons. Sadly, library budgets are often one of the first things to go when governments are looking to cut funding somewhere. At least they have some sort of library, even though it is so small.

I love visiting my local library. Most of the time when i want to read a new author that is where i go to check out a book then if i like it I will start reading other books by that person. I would be sad if they shut down my local library.

There are multiple large libraries close to where I live... but I live in a pretty big city. I think it's sad that the government would close the library down. I can't imagine a tiny library in an old phone box... but I guess it would look a bit like my room right now. So many books... and not enough space to put them all.

That is sad. I think there are other means where the government can get their savings from. In our place, public libraries are not that popular. We don't have public libraries.

I live in a small Umbrian hill town of about 3000 inhabitants but if you include all the inhabitants living in the commune which includes several surrounding villages, the population reaches 20000. There is a local library located in a restructured medieval palazzo which also contains the city museum. The library is very nice, perhaps not a tremendous amount of choice in books as there would be in many cities, but still I think they have done a good job with their resources. If you look out of the library windows you can get a breathtaking view of the Nera river, which flows in a deep gorge around one flank of the town.

Hi maximax, It is very sad to hear of libraries being shut down be they rural or otherwise. Reading is one of the best of pastimes and opens a whole new world to some. I have been chair of our local library board for the past ten years and a member of the board for even longer. We now have computers as well as books thus providing access to the INTERNET those who can't afford it. Blessings.

It is not a good thing to close libraries in rural areas. Everyone who wish to obtain information should be able to access it. Whether they live in rural or in urban areas. There is a library near I live, but since I'm not a student I don't visit it that much.

I really felt sad about that. I love reading books and I love libraries. I have happy memories of libraries. It was in our high school library I first fell in love with my classmate. It was in our high school library I learned the habit of reading and seeking information, back when the Internet was still being developed. I was inspired by the crude paper banner hanging above our library's entrance, "Read and a new world will open".

Of course I would be upset D:. I love to visit my local library whenever I can. I feel sorry for the people who got their library closed. I'm glad I live near my library that way I won't have to worry about waiting to get there. The local goverment needs to give them their library back. Now D
