Right to Information act law was passed by Indian parliament on 15 June and came fully into forceon 13 october 2005. According to this law any Indian citizen may request information from a "public authority" which is required to reply within 30 days. It became very hot news among people before it come into force. Is every one aware of that now? Is it really useful to get information. Any body got useful information using this law. I heard that still officers unable to provide the exact information people requesting within time. Share your experiences or the things you come across about this.

I think RTI was a good act to be passed by the Indian Parliament. The problem though has come in the implementation of that. For starters, only a few people are really aware of this act. Then when people go for the RTI, not all agencies respond and they have to resort to legal wranglings. Also, the recent killings for some of the RTI activists is a proof that though the act is there, the ground reality is somewhere else. Cheers! Ram
