solicitation for school's development?

Does private schools can make the students parents solicit for the school's development? I get 20 envelopes today from the parent-teacher association's president that will be used for solicitation. I was not able to attend the meeting yesterday so he handed me the envelopes today. I refused the envelopes but i promise to contibute but i wont do the solicitation knowing how hard money are earned today.
