My son broke his wrist......................

He broke it in 3 places. He broke while playing baseball. I must say that he was good for taking all of the pain he did because we had to wait so long for the ONLY doctor that was in the E.R. I am now in search of an Orthopedic Surgeon to see if he needs surgery. Have you broken a leg or a wrist or anything? Please share. God Bless! : )

hello Linda4ualways, i sympathize with your son's situation. it's actually very painful to have a broken bone. although i never had it, i want to share to you what i know. i am a paramedical professional and i do think you need to see an orthopedic doctor. if there is only one break in your son's arm, usually doctors prefer to cast the patient's hand&arm for not less than 3 weeks. if it's more than 2 breaks, some doctors consider fixing the broken segments with pins and or wires and eventually immobilize the hand with cast. your son is still young and there is a good prognosis of healing and it won't take much time. as long as he also follows instructions of his doctor how to take care of his injury. and if you can get some advice from a physiotherapist (physical therapist) how you can manage his arm so as not to leave it idle while it's with the cast. prolonged immobilization of a body part can create weakness, joint stiffness, and muscle wasting.

Hi there chiumee! Your advice is very helpful. I am having difficulty in finding a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon who accepts my Medical Insurance. I finally found one but I will not be able to see him until Wednesday but was hoping to find someone else to get a sooner appointment. This Saturday will make a week since the accident happened.

you're scaring me as much as you may also be scared with what i'm gonna say. your son is still young and the broken bones may have already started connecting together. the bad thing is that if his arm was not even put in a cast as emergency first aid measure, there might be a malalignment (broken parts not correctly aligned for proper reconnection and healing). this may give him a deformed hand later. please make it fast looking for the surgeon. by the way, you said your medical insurance is a little trouble looking for a surgeon, call that medical insurance. it should be the one to give you the exact details of the doctor your son's needs. not you looking for one like you are in a market looking for the rarest ingredient of your recipe. and your medical insurance should have given its clients a list of doctors that are accredited with them. unless otherwise the company doesn't have one. you will have to shoulder everything for your son's sake.

Hi Linda! Great to see you again! How is my long lost friend? Sorry to hear about your son's wrist, and he does need to see an Orthopedic Surgeon asap! And they will decide what to do next. As was mentioned surgery could be required or just casting and physical therapy. But, the break itself has to be examined closely to see what the next step will be and it should be done quickly! I broke my left foot, actually spiral fractured it in 2 places and had a cast put on for about a month. I also broke my right shoulder about 4 years ago and that was much worse since they can't cast a shoulder it has to be continuously "moved" so it doesn't "set" in the "wrong" position. Now that was incredible pain and torture. I had to start physical therapy immediately, 3 times a week! They made me move the broken shoulder all the time which was agony and being right-handed I had a whole set of new problems too! I don't know what your insurance is etc., but I do know some Ortho docs in "our area". If you want to discuss it, email me or call me! Great to see ya again! Hugs, Leslie

a great deal of pain indeed. spiral fracture at least has better healing as there is larger surface area of reconnection in between the broken segments. well, shoulder fracture even sometimes the doctor resort in fixing the segments with external fixators if there are more than 2 segments. good for you that you already passed through this agony. you didn't mention any abnormal tingling or burning sensation in your arm or hand until now. so i'm happy that you had a good healing and there was not a nerve torn in the area of the fracture. take care.

very adventurous. i was just imagining these extreme sports and i am good at it. i know how to jump a bike over a ramp for example and i can do it. but i don't have to turn 360degrees while doing it. hehe. enough with a little of something i want to do. else, i'll find myself in the ER.

I really hope that your son is doing ok. I have never ever broken a bone before. I have had a few sprangs and little things but never broken a bone and I hope I never do. All the best for your son. $-MrDollars-$
