Should we (or DO we) have the right to...

get a response deleted from our or other's discussions because it has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Not necessarily because it's breaking other guidelines, or because it's just too short of a response, but well... Everyone gets irritated at those who don't even seem to read the discussion at all but respond, and I am sure we've all done this as well (not read the discussion but responded)... However have you ever felt like just getting the response deleted? I know I have. So Should we or do we have the right to?

Hi SCG! Your idea per se is not bad. It appears good one, however, I feel deletion of irrelevant responses should be with mylot. They people should check and see to it whether any response is totally irrelevant to a discussion. If any user (host) get this authority, s/he may 'delete' number of responses to his/her discussion. I mean there are chances that user may 'misuse' his/her authority. How are you doing? Deepak

You see, you can report about a irrelevant or meaningless or say off the mark response. But, it will require you to read each and every response very thoroughly and even then the final decision will rest with mylot. If you find irrelevant responses in your discussions, try to report about those responses and see if mylot deletes those responses? Keep enjoying your books.

dpk it seems I've not made myself clear when I hurriedly wrote this discussion. I would definitely leave it up to mylot to decide, but I was wondering if it was right at all to report said response so that the mylot authorities could look at it and decide for themselves whether it is worthy of deletion. I suppose in a way I feel that responders who do not read the discussion and go off on their own whirlwhind of thought should fall under "abuse of a member" that is to say because it does irritate us when someone does this, does it not? I am fine, in the world of books and cards excitedly so!

Yes, I have had one of those responses removed from a discussion of mine.. you know..If I am going to take the time to write my discussion- you can at least take the time to read it.. Why comment on something If you don't even know what is being discussed. I have had people just comment off the title - which sometimes has nothing to do with the subject I wrote about.. It's fun to actually trick someone into seeing if they are paying attention. :-)

Minx, I was going to say I have tricked people into responding without a notion of what the discussion is about, but it irritates me as well to see that they only read the title. Some people are tricky enough to ask a question in the title, but then go on about their experience, and then ask another question, the one I figure they want answered, not so much the one in the title. I agree, I feel like if someone takes the time to make a discussion the responders should take the time to read it. I am guilty of not reading an entire discussion before responding, and only responding on the certain points I've read though. I also find that while I might read an entire discussion, response, or comment, I will drift off and forget what my point was... such as I am doing now to mine own discussion!

LOL, well I am guilty of that too- But I like to blame it on old age.. after 40- the mind starts to forget what you walked into the next room for. I need notes for my notes!

You can ask myLot to remove them, and if they agree that it's against guidelines, they will do it. PS What's your favorite color? :D

I realize that I don't get annoyed that easily. Because even for those who obviously didn't read my discussion before responding, I take time to explain instead of to want to have their comment or response deleted. We can never force people to read the entire content of our response. That's just my thought.

No that is true we can never force them to read anything we've written, and I too have taken the time to explain or either that gone off topic myself, or turned their response into its' own discussion. Either way I earn money off of it and that is mostly what I am here for, though I like to throw in a little complaining as well!

What is discussion? I feel that only those are discussion where different views are exchanged in a topic. So topic has an important role in discussion. We must have the knowledge on the subject matter to participate in any discussion. Now the question of responding without reading the discussion. I am really surprise how can anyone response in a discussion without reading the discussion. It is a blind shot. Target less shot never be a success. So those people really make the discussion a satire. So irreverent responses are violation of guideline. We can report those responses. And I think admin must delete such responses.

You have the right to report it, if you have a reason, and I think not being relevant to the discussion would be a good reason. However, it will still be the decision of Mylot admin as to whether or not it gets deleted. In other words, if they do not agree with you they may leave that response up.

Yes, I have. I think those that do the right thing definitely get upset when other skim by and do very little. They aren't given credit for the response if it isn't long enough and if they are dumb enough to do this sort of thing it only hurts them and discusts us. I think it should just be left alone. Energy put out where it doesn't really need to be.

I have to say that more so than not I do take a great amount of time to review all responses before I apply my response. In the event someone has already posted a very similar response to mine then I will reply right under that response. The only time I do not take the full time tor review responses is if it is around 5 pages long where many see to be duplicated, then maybe I will respond and maybe I won't, but one thing for sure I certainly do not appreciate a quick I agree, or I like you discussion. I have had a couple of times and have viewed several other discussion responded this way. I believe myLot restricts from certain things we cannot do as it would be virtually impossible for them to keep up with a great many changes. It sure would be helpful though.

I don't remember ever responding but not reading a discussion. Once a question was asked that I felt merited a one word answer. Just one word under the circumstances I felt was perfect and emphasized more. But I hate running into a discussion where people just answer with a few words that has nothing to do with the subject! Some people seem to come in and treat it like text messaging. I hope MyLot sees this and removes them.

It's a shame to have a response deleted if you have generally misunderstood, or missed, part of the discussion. The removal of irrelevant responses seems reasonable, as it does prevent the posting of total gibberish: which I have seen deliberately done on other sites.
