Deadly Friend

Has anyone ever seen this movie before? I saw it one time back in (I think) 1999. Or around that year, if not it specifically. I first saw it late one night on TV.
It's a movie directed by Wes Craven (who I hear actually stated he considers this movie among his worst movies ever--though many fans disagree). The movie basically follows these three young teenagers. The main character is a boy who is in love with his female best friend who in turn lives with her single alcoholoic abusive father.
Early on, the girl is accidentally killed by her father. The main character ends up "borrowing" her body and is able to bring her back to life, in a manner of speaking by using a microchip in her brain or something along those lines.
Unfortunately, things aren't exactly as the main character wanted as his once beautiful best friend becomes a homicidal maniac.
I've only seen the movie once and that was a long time ago. I remember about the only thing I hated about the movie was the ending. Some people, like on IMDb, feel they should have done something at least similar to the novel's ending.
But nonetheless, I'm planning on buying it on DVD sometime.
Anyway, has anyone ever seen the movie? What did you think of it?

Been a long time since I seen this one. I forgot about it untill I seen your discussion. I remember renting it back in the day lol. I don't remember much about it but I do remember the basketball scene. I have been checking amazon looks like it is only available on region 1 which is weird as I think this could be one of Wes Cravens most underrated films.

I saw it once about around eleven years ago late one night on TV. I had completely forgotten about it as well until just a few days ago. I don't know what made me think about it but something did and the movie randomly popped into my mind one afternoon.
I think it's pretty underrated too. Someone on YouTube kept posting comments on Deadly Friend related videos that they're supposedly doing a remake of it with Kristen Stewart. But I couldn't find anything at all about it on IMDb so I don't know.

I must check out it out on youtube, it will give my memory a well needed jog. I think you might be right about the remake. All the horror news sites are saying the same thing and Kristen Stewart has been mentioned. Here's the thing though, they are saying it is going to be made in 3D. I am still not yet convinced that we really need our horror films in 3D

I think I've seen this one...is this the movie where there's this yellow robot whose eyes looked quite like the robot in Short Circuit and in Wall-E? I think it was a unique horror movie at that time and it's not the worst that Wes Craven has directed.

Yeah, I think that's the same one you're talking about. There is a yellow robot in the movie that's called BB by the main character, the guy who played Albert from Little House On The Prairie.
I agree. I definitely didn't think it was that bad of a movie. A lot of people would agree as well, it seems. I have seen a lot worse movies out there.
