EQ or Emotional Intelligence Quotient is now becoming increasingly relevant while hiring work force and when you are on a job interview...
All our actions are systematically controlled by our emotions . EQ is all about understanding yourself, your goals, your responses , behavior ..It is also your capacity to understand others and their feelings.
It is very important to teach youngsters to be responsible about their actions and also develop respect for others actions. EQ also focuses on positive effects and how to turn one's emotional intelligence to one's advantage by helping an individual build constructive thinking pattern so that it facilitates the person to reach his/her target or Goal..This includes motivation and effective leadership qualities as well...
To be successful it is important to have awareness, effective control and management of one's own emotions and those of other people as well..

You are very right Kiran that it is high time that we should develop Emotional Intelligence Quotient in our children. Now a days, children are much pampered and loved and they are so brittle that they just cannot tolerate if someone (read teaches)admonish them. In our times, we used to be beaten by 'ruler' by teachers, whenever we would commit any grave error and we used to take it on our stride. Recently, some Boards have introduced various such activities in the syllabus, apart from studies so that children could be more tolerant and could develop qualities like leadership and how to be express themselves in public.

There is no limit to knowledge and in modern days, there is so much to learn and expand our knowledge and develop our expertise,, it's easier now that there is so much available and the facilities are great,so if we do not improve on this (emotional intelligence),, we got to blame ourselves.

I agree with you that it is very important for the children to have well developed their EQ because their EQ can affect them greatly in their daily lives. Since we are all living on the Earth, we have to interact with one and other every day. Therefore, we have to develop our relationship with the others. In order to have good relationship with the others, it is vital for our response and reactions under certain circumstances as this will significantly affect the others' impressions on us. Hence, everyone of us need to learn to better control our own emotions so that we are considerate enough not to hurt the others.

Hi lam, thanks a lot for your views ! As you rightly point out, we are social beings and we need to behave and interact in a manner that is suitable for different situations in life.EQ is nothing but channelising our emotions more effectively so that we are able to better our life and performance..Have a nice weekend

The importance of EQ is way overrated and there's nothing at all scientific about it. Our actions are *not* controlled entirely by our emotions, and I would go out of my way to avoid anyone whose emotions ruled them. As for the importance in finding a job, it has nothing to do with how well you can do a job, or even whether you can get along with other people. In business, EQ is just another fad that pops up every now and then when management is convinced that they've found a foolproof way to choose employees.

What else controls our actions if not emotions? we are not robots ...Each one to his/her own thinking.Fad or not it is gaining a lot of importance in the corporate world with work shops being conducted for already existing employers...I am not sure, but since you say so, it probably has been misused like everything else in life by man...Thanks a lot for the response and have a wonderful weekend
