We've got a friend coming to visit!

We haven't seen her for about 4 years, between the problems she's had at work, her dad's death and her mother's needing help, she's been unable to come visit from the Valley. But she's coming tomorrow! However, since her last visit, things have changed a bit around here. So, we had to rearrange the office so that we could fold out the hide-a-bed. That meant we needed to hang a shelf for the modem and router to sit on - we got one with a railing so that we can also hope the cats won't knock a few other things off it... We cleaned the room, well, not entirely, but better than it has been for a while. A few weeks ago we got some drawers and we stacked them on each other and put shorts and the roomie's socks (diabetic socks) in the drawers. Then we worked on the kitchen to make it look better. While doing all this we went out and brought in a little bookcase and took the coffee table the roomie had been using out to the shed, found an old monitor (and a possum) in the shed - took the monitor to Goodwill, took the coffee table and a little cabinet we had out. Somehow, we actually made a bit of room... Still, there's lots to be done around the house, I don't know where to start most of the time, but we do need to work on it... hum... I think the bookcase in the kitchen can come in here...

HaHa, you're so funny. I'm sure things will work out fine and everyone will have a wonderful time regardless of what the house looks like. You sure have done alot in a short time. And the possum, HAH, what a surprise that must have been. I'm guessing you dusted him off and threw him back in, right?, lol! Enjoy your time with your friend. Is she just coming for one day or staying for a while? Have fun!

They are creepy looking aren't they? Like big huge rats, ew. No, you really don't want to get too close to them, they got big teeth, haha. Oh, so she's going to be there all week..how much fun is that!! You're going to have a great time and should have some good laughs, and then you can tell us about all your escapades...

Possums tend to like my sheds and yard as well. I left a door open for a cat once and a possum came in to have breakfast. One year we had a young one in our cherry tree.

Sounds like you're going to be a busy bee! Have a great visit. Your friend has been through some tough times, I hope you can take her mind off things, comfort her, whatever it is she needs and catch up on things. Take care.

Yeah, she's coming up to get away from her stuff, so we are going to do our best to help her forget what is going on back at home.

Elic, you sound like us. I need to have company come visit more often so that I will clean more. My daughter visiting got me started. I need to do some everyday. However the lure of the computer pulls me away from such mundane things, until I have to do it in a hurry to get ready for guests.

The way I learned to do things when there's so much to be done and in every direction is to start in one room and stay there till it's done. I make a pile for every room that things need to go in such as, this pile is for this room and this pile is for that room and so on. I'll continue on till I finish doing what ever it is I need to do before moving on to the next room. That way I don't get all scramble brained not knowing which way to turn next. lol

I didn't do anything with the possum, just left it alone and let it waddle back into the shed and I'm guessing he had a way in so he went out. We were back out there twice more and never saw it again.

Cocker Scandal I call Rufus - This valuable dog was wondering the streets and no-one wanted him. He was with me for a few days then the local copper took him. He is a beautiful dog who desperately need someone to love who loves him back. There's no aggression in him at all just an intelligent exuberance that needs to be trained.
I know what you mean about cleaning. A week or so ago I tackled a couple of big jobs and really noticed the difference. I was quite pleased with myself and lost my motivation and now everything looks as it did before. I know it's not but I feel like I need to start over rather than pick up where I left off. Having another (curious) rescue dog inside as well as inside and out and dropping a dish of apricot chicken on the kitchen floor doesn't help either.

well, we did such a good job, it still is in pretty good shape, and I've been working on other things too - there's a lot to be done, but baby steps...

Busy busy busy! I've been having work done on the house all summer, so I know what it's like... it never ends. From taking the interior chimney down in the bathroom and using the opportunity to put in an attic access hatch, it was discovered I have gnawed and chewed wiring... From taking the old sink out to do the drywalling and putting in a new one, I discovered the water meter leaks...

My...You have been busy! It does take a little rearranging when somebody comes to stay! My daughter had a slumber party for her birthday last year and it took so much reorganizing to accommodate sleeping room for everyone because of course they all wanted to sleep close to each other. We had to shift furniture, find new storage places etc. We eventually sorted it out but it was quite a job and all for one night! Hope you enjoy your friend’s visit, have fun!

sorry to take so long to get back to you Jen - mostly we had to clean to make space for the friend to stay! And she cleaned the microwave for us! I actually don't use it that much, but the roommate blows stuff up in it a lot (cream soups and the like) so it had gotten really bad, but its lovely now... one of the things we did was the fridges, they were HORRIBLE! now they are lovely!

It is nice to have company. You end up doing things you have been putting off like moving some things and cleaning! Watch out for the possum, I have heard they can be nasty. I know you love animals, but I hope you don't have any pet possums.

my take on possums is you just get out of their way, I'll look at them, but I sure won't take a stick and poke them...
