I Have Mixed Feelings About This

I've been duped by the doctor! The other day I went to see him (yet another guy I've never seen before) and I had to tell him all my history and that I'm due an exploratory operation after being assessed next week at the hospital. After a while I told him that all the times I've been coming to the doctors none of them have weighed me..so out came the weighing-scales (just like the in-laws') and on I stood covering my eyes with my hand because I didn't want to look down lol. Anyway, the weight was 80-something kilogramms. I told him that I've no idea what that is in stones and pounds. He shook the weighing-scales but the weight didn't convert so he sat in front of his computer-screen and guessed because I don't recall him going on the internet or anything. He told me I was 12 and a half stone. I was amazed! "Thought I'd be at least 13, what should I be?" "Well, for your height of 5ft 4ins around 9 and a half stone!" Great! He then gave me a little pack with local walks in it. Me and hubby have been on one already (his firm prints the packs) so I'm hoping we can get out and about the next couple of days with him having a long weekend off, including the Bank Holiday. The thing is, when I checked a currency converter site just now I really am around 13 stone. Bugger! However, even when I rode my bike a lot about 12 years ago I was still around 11 stone and a lady at the place I got weighed (National Savings where I worked) couldn't believe it. I couldn't either. Whichever way you look at it I need to lose weight. After my tests next week I could well have an under-active thyroid but that doesn't excuse being a fat, lazy cow does it lol.

I have not seen any scales in stone for years! I had forgotten about that measurement of weight. It seems really old fashioned to me. Like it comes from stone age days when they got a handful of rocks and measured you against them! Getting out and walking or riding a bike will be great for your health and will help you to lose weight, but it is also great for your mind too as it can be very relaxing and peaceful. Just for a comparison, I weigh about 60 to 63 kilograms I think and am 179cm tall (hang on....going to convert that to feet) which is 5.87 feet tall. I used to weigh around 80 kilograms around 2005.

Still doesn't change the fact I was duped by the doctor though, no matter how well-intentioned he may have been at the time. I do have my bike here but the roads are sub-standard compared to Blackpool's and they're not as wide..or am I wider so I don't fit on the road.. Anyway, that's my excuse..plus the fact the chain has rusted up deeming the bike un-rideable. What I would like is for some money so I can get the thing repaired as Halfords is only a few yards away...down the road from us. They sell bikes and service them too. I might ring them up next week to ask how much it would be (roughly) to have a new chain fitted. Some of our roads have been re-surfaced but not all as the Council has obviously ran out of money. I promise we shall go out for a walk if the weather holds.

Well, a stone, as I read on wikipendia is equivalent to 14 lbs. I like the British standard better than US. According to the charts in US I should weigh just over 9 and a half stone and I am 5'7". I would need to lose 80 lb or 5.5 stone to be at that weight.

It should not cost too much for a new chain Jane, they only take a minute or two to put on and they are not expensive to buy. We are lucky that there are many bike paths in our city, but most of them are in the flatter areas of the city nearer to the beach. It is all hills around here, but we do have some state forest nearby which is great for mountain biking. My bikes are not really good enough for those trails though. I am hoping to upgrade to a better mountain bike so that I can use them. So GardenGerty, an American Stone is different to an English Stone is it? I only really understand metric weights and distances, imperial measurements are too complicated!

Underactive thyroid might make you feel tired. If you have large bones or lots of muscle you will weigh more than average, that has always happened to me. I have walked twice this week, but did not today because I was going shopping, twice. Tomorrow I will do yard work. It is also going to be warm again. I will walk more as the season cools. I do not, off the top of my head, know the conversion of stones to pounds, but I can tell you that I need to lose at least forty pounds, and if you believe the charts for "average" I need to lose about 80.

A better measure of how "trim" (or not) you are is your waist size... "normal" for a woman is 32 inches or less (38 or less for men). I ain't normal, either.

Haha! I know what you mean. It's not healthy being on the computer but it's more fun than push-ups and nibbling cucumber (my friend used to do that) lol.

Well, let's see... 1 kilo = 2.5 lbs 1 stone = 20 lbs 80 kilos =200 lbs = 10 stone 12.5 stone = 250 lbs = 100 kilos Something isn't computing... maybe it's me?

Okay, recalculating now... 1 kilo = 2.5 lbs 1 stone = 14 lbs 80 kilos = 200 lbs = 14.285 stone 12.5 stone = 175 lbs = 70 kilos 13 stone = 182 lbs = 72.8 stone My brain's starting to hurt...
