Anyone else allergic to onions?

I have a somewhat rare food allergy--I am allergic to onions and plants in the onion family, such as chives and leeks. Does anyone else share this allergy? I have noticed that it is getting harder and harder to find tasty food without onions being one of the ingredients. I think people put onions in recipes because it adds a lot of flavor cheaply, and I believe that is why more and more restaurants are also adding onions to their entrees--it is easier and cheaper than experimenting with subtler flavors. Has anyone else noticed this trend, and what strategies do you use to avoid eating onions?

that's a tough one, but it can be done - I'm guessing you also can't do garlic since its related too...
However, if you can, garlic can cover a multitude of "sins".
I'm allergic to corn, this is problematic because they used corn starch as a binder in many medicines!

Garlic is not as bad, but as I get older, I am becoming less tolerant to it as well. Corn must be a real problem--so many processed foods seem to have corn products in them too. Can you eat things like high fructose corn syrup or does that cause problems, too?

I don't usually sneeze, unless I smell it cooking--I get usually get headaches and itchy mouth and tightness in the throat. But clearly he is very allergic--I hope he can avoid it--it can be hard, as I know from personal experience.
