Dressed to the nines!

Overdressed for the occasion - Overdressed and dressed to the nines

So we had a parent-teacher-kids thing at my son’s pre-school yesterday. It was supposedly a get together so that the teachers and parents could introduce each other. I came from work so I was just wearing whatever I threw on in the morning. It never fails to surprise me that there is always one couple that comes in dressed to the nines! One family brought in their son and they seemed to be overdressed for the thing. I think the lady was in an evening gown. While some just came in shorts and slippers, and others looking like they just rolled out of bed, this couple stuck out like a sore thumb. It doesn’t matter what event or gathering it is, there is always that one couple that usually comes in overdressed. So, have you noticed that in the gatherings you go to? Or you don’t notice it because you’re the one coming in smartly dressed all the time?

It is really funny that you should mention this because my daughter's school just had open house the other night and though the school is full of families that are mostly middle to lower class, there were a lot of people that came to the open house in what was clearly their Sunday best. As for me, I don't tend to notice it all that much because I don't pay attention to what people are wearing as compared to their personalities, but I did take notice when I heard many of the teachers mention it.

I guess that's one way of making an impression. To be in your Sunday best. But for me, it isn't necessary. Like you, I would rather know the parent's personalities. Considering that these personalities are also taken up by their children who will be with my son most of this school year. Thanks.

HI BOUNCE!!ü Although am not a parent yet nor part of a married couple, I can still relate to your discussion. Yes, I've noticed that there are those people who are "overdressed." I myself like getting dressed up and glammed up when there is a social function. However, if the event occurs at daytime, my attire is usually smart casual. And I choose light colors so that I wouldn't look "dressed to k.i.l.l." However, if the event is something special (like a graduation or oath-taking), you can expect that I am one of those who would be noticed because of what I'm wearing. I love getting glammed up for those special moments in life. :)

Haha! I kinda thought that about you. I'm sure you like being glammed up. And I think it helps in your profession. It will surely make you more credible if you don't come in ragged clothes. But I'm sure that you're smart enough to know the difference. And when to dress down if necessary. Thanks.

That's funny, but maybe they had some swanky even to go to right afterward or something.

I hope so. If not, I'd hate to realize one day that I have to dress up for every parent-teacher meeting. I'm sure my wardrobe couldn't take it. Thanks dawn.
