I finally bit the bullet and wrote my first article for helium. I was really happy with the result of what I wrote but it also really got me to thinking that I'd love to have more ideas of crafts that I can do with Paul during the fall (and perhaps invite some playgroup friends to come over as well.)
I'm going to link to the article that I've written so you can see the ideas that I've already come up with, but I would love to have many, many more craft ideas as well (we are homeschooling this year and mostly we've been working on handwriting, but I'd love to add a lot of craft time into our school plans as well).

Dora-
Thanks for sharing. I've not been overly impressed with articles on Helium as I've found way too many plagiarized ones, but I love what you've shared! We do similar activities, but we focus our fall lessons around the three harvest festivals: Lammas, Mabon, and Samhain. My son was just old enough last year to help carve the pumpkin in October, as well as make pumpkin seeds. He had a blast! We're just starting our home curriculum next week so it will correspond to my husband's schooling, and my thesis schedule.
Have a fun year!

Dora-
I wasn't trying to imply yours was not worthy or that it needed references. I write a great deal from experience, but I've seen a lot of articles plagiarized on that site so I don't trust much of what is there. Your article however was very well done and I agree in putting together a portfolio. It will be a positive in your children's education.

I didn't think that you were implying anything about my work. Instead, I was simply saying that wasn't something that I would ever do. I went through school during the time when we had to start doing portfolios to graduate so I'm quite used to writing from most directions.

My goal with starting to build a portfolio of my own is to use only my own creative work unless I decide to write on a subject that does require some sorts of reference. However, when it comes to the writing that I enjoy, I really prefer to write from experience rather than to write from research.

I wanted to let you know that I liked your article. These are some of the first activities that I would tell someone to do with their child at home. In fact, they very much duplicate things we did while I worked at Headstart. I have some articles at Helium, and I need to get back there, as well as a few more writing sites. Keep up the good work. Also you can do many more themed projects.

Wow, honestly I have no experience at all with headstart, but I do know that these are activities that I have shared with my children through the years. I know that there are tons and tons of activities that can be done with children throughout the fall and honestly throughout the year as well. It really has gotten me to thinking about all kinds of other themed activities that I can do with my children and also with the members of our playgroup as well.

hi dorannmwin its been a long time but I remember a class in junior college on crafts on making collages and on scrapbrooking that could be simplified for children. we made collages out of things we fou nd on the campus so it could be used for kids on a nature walk along with snaps of each child too. Also small scrapbooks could be made with things found outside and with some small poems and little messages too. I made one collage out of only leaves and blooms I found on the campus.

I think that collages always are a great idea and I don't think that there is an age group where this isn't really an option except for those people that are too young to work with arts and crafts at all. Thank you so much for your suggestions.

I'm sorry but I don't have any ideas to contribute to your writing, but I just wanted to pop in here because you did something that I have been contemplating for the longest time.
I've been wanting to dive into helium myself, but I'm just not sure if I would have the time and the ideas to go through with it.

Honestly, the only thing that is stopping you is yourself. It also took me a long time to decide to jump in with it and now I honestly only wish that I would have done it sooner. I feel like there is no shortage of topics to write on and I suspect that I'll be loading up my portfolio over there rapidly.
