Am I the only person who really hated to do this? I never wanted to be a teacher, so I never liked to grade papers. Especially considering that I always seemed to get someone who had a paper that it was obvious that they did not care and it was going to be marking a paper mostly wrong. I never took sadistic joy with failing someone. Of course, I always felt sorry for the poor soul who was stuck with my paper, before I discovered computers and started typing all of my homework up. Teachers encouraged that, because I wasn't the only one who had handwriting that looked like both of my hands were amputated.

Well; That is a dilemma. I remember back when i was in tenth grade. My mother was a teacher in the same school i attend. and luckily my final exam paper landed in her hand. Ofcourse, she knowing my handwriting, Knew right away that I was not passing this exam. She didn't know what to do. if she passed me no one would know but then she would have made a big ethical mistake. On the other hand its hard to flunk your own son.
Anyways . she turned my paper in to another teacher who fortunately respected my mom for doing so and passed me

Yeah, ethics is a huge thing with something like this. You feel bad if its someone you know well or a family member or whatever, but that's just a show of favoritism. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I never liked that in elementary and middle school. I mainly didn't like it because someone else could see my final grade on a quiz or homework. If I knew I struggled with it I was always ashamed handing it over to someone even before I heard the answers. Plus, you can't always trust a kid to notice mistakes on grading. Luckily, this didn't happen in high school which I think would have been a little worse since the grading systems are more strict.

Actually, it is forbidden to do this practice any more as it violates the person's privacy rights. I always hated it too bc I didn't want anyone to know what my grade was. I also was like you and didn't like it when the paper I was grading wasn't doing too good! But as a teacher I didn't mind grading too much at all!
