Section 8 Housing

So... exploring all of the many options that are out there for single people or young couples. There is a significant difference between Public Housing and Section 8 that I've learned. I also noticed that there are hardly any locations that are actively accepting Section 8 applications. Most of the ones I have discovered at various Housing Authorities have closed their waiting lists and the list is like 5 years long. That is ridiculous. Emergency housing is nonexistent. The only thing that you can do if you were immediately in a crucial situation is to go to a homeless shelter and that's sad. Are they actively accepting Section 8 applications in your community??

They are accepting Section 8 applications in our community. And, in addition to that there are also several other options that are available here for people that are struggling financially but want to have a house of their own. These are due to different grants that have been given to our state because of the fact that it is such a poor state. In fact, when my husband and I were buying our house, we could have been approved for down payment assistance, only the house didn't fit their criteria.

That is very good! A grant I think is what our state needs... but they use money towards stupid things... like road construction of roads that are already good. Or to the police department and different organizations that should already be receiving money from the government on a monthly basis. Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks for sharing!!

There are a lot of people that are on those long section 8 waiting lists. You are right about emergency housing, I think it's because now the need is greater than it has ever been. I don't know if you know this, but a lot of people are living in hotels while they are waiting. Overall it is more expensive, but some get help from churches and other organizations and if you are paying weekly, it is sometimes easier to come up with $200.00 to pay the week than it is to come up with one month's rent plus deposit. It is scary because each week you are faced with coming up with that payment or being kicked out, ut if you can get an agency or church to help you, it will keep you out of the shelters while you wait for section 8.

Wow.. that is really generous of churches to help out those who are really in need. God bless those who are going through these type of situations because it's ready to get cold and the winter is going to be rough for a lot of American families. My heart goes out. Thanks for commenting!!
