The EPA has proposed fuel economy standards that would require fleet standard to average as much as 62 miles per gallon of gasoline by 2025. By 2017 fleet standards will average 37 mpg. Quite a jump from 37 mpg to 62 mpg in eight year but not nearly as impressive as the Europeans who have set standards at 64.8 mpg by 2020. Before anyone say that this standard is too high of a bar lets remember that this is the USA the country that put man on the moon. My opinion is we could top those European standard if we wanted to. http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/news/press_releases/2010/fuel-efficiency-standards-10-01-2010.html

we already can and could if we wanted easily. the gm volt is going to be on the market soon for people to buy and its going to get up to 230mpg. if this is the case then a requirement of 100mpg by 2025 shouldn't be a problem.

The Volt is a very good example of American engineering.

I heard that. All I can say is Ford better get on the Mustang because with the top down they are lucky to get a third of that. I won't be giving up a convertible no matter what the government says.

I love the spirit of the non-conformist. Hopefully the brainiacs from Ford will cater to your needs because I am sure you are not the only one.
