I had visitors from the UK and Switzerland some weeks ago, and while we waited for the plane from Switzerland via Copenhagen to arrive, I took the Brits to see some neolithic rock carvings.
It's a really pretty place

There's a small waterfall, nice birches which at this time of the year are turning yellow, really quiet as it's not that well known and quite a few carvings from over a span of several 1000 years. There's ships, people, something they think could be crude maps and lot of footprints. The footprints probably had some religious meaning but it's a bit puzzling now. They can be found through big parts of Europe though, not just up here in the north. There's also different patterns that can be found through large areas, showing that people have been travelling quite a lot even 4-2000 years ago.
Do you have a favourite historical spot close to you? Maybe something a bit of the ordinary, normal tourist spot?

I saw an gold finders (or something like that, they were looking for something Precioussss, as people do one New Zealand ...) town on New Zealand, one that had been put up by Chinese immigrants. Really tiny houses up in the mountains in New Zealand, it most have been freezing in the winter. Splendid views though.

Since it's Scotland, it might be some kind of stones involved.
Actually, things that are that old are usually made of stone :-)
I went driving around in Scotland with a friend from Ayr ages ago, we saw some standing stones here and there. She wasn't too interested though, she wanted more recent history so we went to all the battle-fields we could find. And nearly killed an American tourist at Culloden.
Going driving there again in May if everything goes as planned. Will then see as much very old stuff as possible.

Thanks for sharing your link. Rock carvings from as far back as the Neolithic age are definitely interesting.
