What is article spinning?

What exactly is article spinning? I'm looking through online job postings, and I always come across posts that require article spinning/article spinner. Is this a new technique in writing an article? Why do web owners require this for content or web articles?

My understanding is that you take an article, and "spin" it for a different audience. Maybe an article written for nurses, that you change so it is easy for the average reader to understand the medical information in it. I wouldn't mind doing this job if it paid well, but I hadn't come across any postings.

From my own understanding, I think it's similar to re-writing an articles. There are posts of job requirements for article spinning. You might wanna take a look and explore.
