As many of you know, I had surgery this week to replace my knee. The surgery took place on Tuesday and originally I was to get out of hospital tomorrow. Well, I "wowwed" them at the hospital with my recovery and they let me go a day early!
A number of things went differently this time round from the last knee I had done. First off, I must say that I am right side dominant and therefore my right leg is in much better shape than my left was last year so naturally it would recover quicker. Also, the doctor did some things different with this knee...he didn't use the staples but the dissolving sutures so there should be less likelihood of drainage and therefore infections. They were also more aggressive with the physical therapy while I was in hospital and my natural drive to get back on my feet didn't hurt, either.
At any rate, it does feel good to be home again. My kitties missed me quite obviously. They have been snuggly to the nth degree since my return.
Currently my quads are the weak spot in my leg. They are extremely stiff and while I am able to bend my knee quite a bit more than say two days ago, I'm still not able to pull my knee up all the way yet. Also, lifting my leg straight toward the front has been impossible until this evening when I was able to hold it aloft about 2inches for about ten seconds. Little baby steps. I have my first outpatient PT appointment on Tuesday at 10am. Here's hoping that all goes well with this knee and that I don't have any of the complications I had with the last one! So far, so good!

WTG!
You have to work hard on these things, the roomie's mom was quite a bit older and her first knee didn't do well, but she changed docs and her other knee and both hips were much better and had faster recovery times and don't bother her as much as that first knee.

Yeh...I was so excited when I was able to bend my knee and actually lift my own leg this morning.
