I cannot stand when I hear people say the word aint. Aint is not a word and it sounds so ignorant. I remember using the word aint when I was in high school but now I cannot imagine ever using it. I would be so embarassed if someone heard me say that. I know people who say it all the time and I think my god why at their age have they not learned to stop using that word. Does this drive you nuts to when you hear someone saying aint? My 6 year old daughter came home from school the other day and said aint. I told her that aint isnt a real word and that people wont think shes very smart if she uses that word. She said her friend says it and I told her that people wont think her friend is very smart if she goes around saying that. I havent heard her say it since then thank goodness. She tends to pick up habits easily so I was figuring this would be one as well.

Aint that nice? You're teaching your daughter well. Hehe, just teasing. I know what you mean. Some people think that just because some famous person started using this or that word, then it is cool to say that word too. I bet that's how some incorrect words get into the vocabulary. Kids should be taught early. So that even if they try using words such as 'aint', they still would know that it isn't correct. And that they should use other words when the occasion calls for proper words.

I agree. I know that I was taught by my parents and teachers not to say aint. I would say it in school I guess from hearing so many other kids say it I just thought it sounded fine. But then when I got older and was working I didnt want to sound ignorant so I remembered never to use that word. Now it just disgusts me to hear someone say aint.

THere are many words like this and in my country, especially in my region people take English in their hands and rip it to pieces, using nouns for adjectives, using their own English to convey what they want irrespective of the proper usage. THis can be accepted in the uneducated classses where we can at least appreciate the genuine effort they make but even educated people do this because a fairly step-motherly treatment is given to English.

I do understand if people are very fluent in english them thinking its proper to use this word but anyone that has been to school and is educated at least to say grade 10 really should know that saying aint is just considered ignorant. I always want to correct adults if I hear them say aint but I do not do that. I only correct children.
