This is the most common question you will be asked during a job interview, although the question is pretty simple, it's an open-ended question where the interviewer asks to know if you're really suited for a job. During my first interview, I was asked this question and I started stating my name, address, hobbies etc,. which are not related to the job I am applying for. It's hard to answer this question especially when you apply for a job the first time. The right answer to this question would be something which are related to the job you are applying for like your past experience that you know has something to do with the job, for example if you are applying for a telemarketing job, you can use your past experience where you sell something in the past and you know that you can do the same over the phone.

Yes, that is true. I will usually give a summary of my past work experience. Then I might add that I am happily married and have three wonderful kids, but that is pretty much as personal as I think one should get at an interview because they really just want to know if your past exerience will be relevant to the job at all.
