Are you self educated in any way?

I never liked history, or science when I was in school. (Especially didn't like science!) Now I love both topics and have educated myself quite a bit in them, and also many other things, such as learning how to make a web page, even though some of it may be outdated by now! Have you educated yourself in some way? Or is there something you plan to teach your self one of these days?

I can be called self educated in computers and the Internet.
-
In 1997 I was the proud owner of a new computer, (floor model from Walmart). I taught myself how to run it.
-
That exercise involved learning how to run Windows 95 and any programs that came with the computer such as Windows Paint, the painfully cheap Text Editor that came with the machine, and the I.E. a.k.a. Internet Explorer browser. (which I very shortly replaced with Netscape). The others that I learned escape my memory over a decade later.
-
Shortly after learning the intimate secrets of the P.C., I learned the wonders of the Web, followed by safety of said P.C. after a few close viral scrapes. The most serious led me to explore a new operating system, Linux. Linux isn't bullet proof, but it is hostile to viruses.
-
I discovered that most for pay computer programs have open source equivalents of equal value. Usually the only cost of admission to Open Source is that there is a hefty learning curve.

I was brought up being taught things like the value of history, heritage, leadership, interaction with people and public speaking. AS a result the rest of my education was me learning on may own basing on the initial things I was taught. Also the areas I mentioned are those that are in fact my strengths.

I think computers can be very frustrating and annoying! But that's how I learned to leave a problem and come back to it later, cause usually when I left or leave a problem with the computer for a bit, the answer becomes clearer and easier to see.. Now my biggest problem is remembering it the next time I need to do the same thing!

Yes, I'm significantly self-educated. I've never studied music to any real degree, and yet I sing and write songs (I'm a natural if you like); and I'm a writer, although I've never studied writing to any degree. Much of my knowledge has come about as a result of my own research too. I love to learn; it's a thrill for me.

Yes, I am. I never went to college and have self taught myself literature and writing. Online research has taught me alot and just experience getting online and publishing articles and so forth. Alot of sites are very informative in publishing and writing. I have always loved to write and even more now being online.

Hello,
My most valuable lessons are all self taught. I graduated in engineering, but most of the engineering stuffs I've assimilated after my graduation. In schools I studied lot of science, lot of arts and lot of other things. But it's only now that I understand the meaning of all that. When I used to study for an exam, I didn't know how that would benefit me in the future. But now I am not obliged to study anything. So I need to find my own purpose for studying something. In this process I am doing something beyond 'studying', it's 'learning'. I think every learning process is actually self motivated. Thanks.
God bless you.

.."something beyond 'studying', it's 'learning'." I like that!!
How nice it would be if we would appreciate all that available learning when it was so handy and we were in school!

yeah, when I was at school I used love to study, but I don't like to go to school, I quit school when I was 13(that is a secret), and than I start to study by myself, I learned how to speak English an German, I studied History and Theology, and so on, when I was 20, I had to find a job, I start to look for things that I could do, but how I have not school, that was a problem.
I did a lot of tests to go in to the the university, then I passed in a lot of then, but was not apple to go because of the studies.
I became a teacher, then start to work with computers, technical draws, preacher and so on. and I never did a formal study for that.
I think that I am a winer, I did a lot of things that a lot of people that has study and money could't do.
thanks and have a nice day

That sounds very interesting. You are doing very well. Well, I suppose, there are things we just have to learn by ourselves. I have to travel a lot to countries in different parts of the world, and I have to educate myself about the countries before visiting there, to be prepared to work in the foreign environment. In fact, I very much enjoy learning about the traditions and cultures of foreign countries.

I'm bout the same as you are. I taught myself the computer.............my hubby bought me one years ago and I was afraid of it......he went back home to take care of our business and there I was with a computer..........dah?
but, after I learned how to turn it on ! I didn't do too bad :)
That was 7 years ago and this is my fourth puter !
Going strong and I'm not interested in doing all you do now. Still it's nice you do.

I did, though this is practical, I self educate in learning how to play the guitar. I really wanted to learn and there's no one to teach me w/n the family full time. I dont have the money to pay an instructor so I bought these song books and learn from the internet. Luckily, I did learn. Nothing's really impossible if you wanted to :)
