My cake making daughter is still very much out of action after her operation on her elbow.
She had her cast off on Monday and yesterday went to have her stitches out - my other daughter took this photo of the stitches just before they were taken out.
You can see that it's a pretty nasty scar and it's no wonder that her cake making has been disturbed.
She is hoping to be back in action in a couple of weeks.
Has surgery every left you unable to do your job like this for a few weeks?

I have never had any stitches to speak of, but in 1992 I broke a leg whilst playing paintball- carried on playing another 20 minutes too!
I was away from work for 6 weeks. Luckily it was a work related day out, so I did get paid sick leave. Obviously I was not working for a security company then- the company I work for now would have taken the earliest opportunity possible to avoid paying me!
Oh, I still have my 'Hero' certificate from the paintball organisers for continuing my team duty whilst injured.

You have a pretty big family, as I remember reading a message about your other daughter yesterday. I believe that the surgery shouldn't have much impact on her artistic abilities, as she only needs to gain muscular mass if anything. As her surgery shouldn't have been serious there is no need to worry, because the result of it won't be weakened or damaged nerve endings. Rest assured that she will be okay, and rest will definitely improve her healing time. Meanwhile to cheer her up, I would most definitely buy her a cake to rekindle her great achievements. Wish she gets well really soon.

My niece underwent an surgery a few weeks back and she is still not able to get into her normal being till now. Its more than 20 days now still boarding the bus and stepping out is a difficult task for her. Surgery always leaves a scar on our body looking ugly. Its a permanent mark on the body. I wonder why doctors have to do surgery for each issue. Unless there is a surgery disease cant be cured is it. But always surgery will make a person weak and they cannot do their job for quite some time. Very pathetic situation.

Yes there are sometimes really nasty scars left after surgery.
One of my daughters and one of my granddaughters had pyloric stenosis as babies - my daughter had her op 21 years ago and she has quite a big scar but my granddaughter who had hers 4 years ago was operated through her tummy button and you can hardly see a thing!

Ouch! That looks like it was painful! I had a tumor on one of my thyroid and had to have it removed. I found it was cancerous so 3 weeks late I had to get the other one removed. Nothing like having your throat slit twice...lol The second surgery was 2 days before Thanksgiving (about 5 years ago) and it took me a while to recover, but I was lucky to have worked for a great company and I was able to take off all the time I needed to recover.

Hiya chem,
Well she is bound to have recovered somewhat by now. I hope so as I can see all those Cakes coming out on here. I would miss seeing them and getting ideas myself and feeling inspired by them.
Nasty Scars but they heal in time.
I had a C/Section done with my youngest Son and I had to be in action the very next Day too as they handed him to me and would not help me out at all.
Fortunately one Nurse came to my rescue and told them off and I had a least one good nights sleep. However the following six months were almost sleepless as he cried Day and Night every hour and a half enough to floor anybody I can tell you.
I healed quickly though and I was moved by the compassion of the Nurse and will always be thankful that she saw my suffering and I did suffer the stitches were way too tight ouch.
Hope she is recovering now. xxx

Hiya chem,
Better that than nothing if she can manage to still carry on making her Cakes. Taking it easy the first few Weeks and then build on it bit by bit and then she should be able to get back to almost normal working time again.
She must be much better by now obviously because I have written this from a response a while back.

Actually, the reason I am staying home now is that I had foot surgery in January, and was going to be off quite a while. I came to the conclusion that I did not want to go back to my other job. I have held temporary jobs since then. My foot still looks funky, but mostly walks better.

OUCH! What in the world happened to her? Poor gal!! Well I'm gonna be in the same boat as she is come Friday when I get my dental implants. My dentist said my gums didn't heal right and he will have to cut into them to shape them AND scrape the bone to level it out then he'll put the implants in. I'm NOT looking forward to all that but once it's all healed, I'll be a happy camper..... I hope. lol

Ouch! That looks like an unusual way to stitch her up... perhaps because of it being an area that bends?
I have not has surgery that has left me unable to work for a long period of time. I had my gallbladder out and you were at home for like a week but it wasn't too bad. Thankfully I had my c-sect when I was home full time if I had gone back to work after the normal 8 weeks I don't think I would of been physically ready to do so as it took several months to feel any form of normal.
