which studies is better?

A friend of mine wants to higher studies in history? He also wants to do doctrate in that area. He is very much interested in ancient, historical events. But in his family, their parents are not allowing him to take that subject, because their statement is that studying history does not worth much, getting job is also difficult.
They compel my friend to take computer science, since it will be better in his future. But my friend has no interest in that field.
What do u think? Can my friend be allowed in his way, or he can be compled to take course as per his parents wish?

His parents may have a good reason as far as career is concerned. But, regarding educational persuits, I would always support persuing whatever the person wishes to and have strong interest in. Any field of study is broad and endless, whether history, computer science, medical, engineering, and so on. Your friend should be allowed to proceed with his choice.

your friend should do what his mind is telling him, he should go for higher studies and find a good job and prove his family wrong. But he should study properly and should make his career not that only studying history for fun and knowledge and waste his precious years of life
