I own a HP Compaq 6710b laptop. I bought it in jan,2008 and till Aug,2010 it was working fine. Suddenly some days ago i noticed my laptop screen started to flicker like power fluctuations to the glowing bulb/tube tight. I tightened all the screws of the laptop and then it worked fine for a day then prob started again. I removed the power plug and worked for sometime, it was fine. Then i plugged in, it started to mess again. I removed the battery and worked on direct power, no use either.
Then i opened power options and in Adjust display brightness i reduced it to minimum brightness and now for the last 2 and half months it is OK with no visible flicker problem but working on with low brightness is like hell but i currently thav no options. but now too whenever i brighten it, it starts to flicker again.
Why this thing happens to me? Some tech/Professionals say, my LCD is gone and would take loads of money to replace it (u can buy new laptop with investing some extra $ instead of replacing the LCD) and some say the back-light is gone and have to tighten it if loose or replace it if gone.
What could the the exact problem??? Experts? Professionals? Technicians? Computer magnets? Pls help!!

It sounds like the back light is either on its way out, or its solder joints have oxidized, thus making bad connections. If, when the screen goes dark, you shine a light on the screen and you can see the image on the LCD, you'll know it's not the LCD that's faulty. However, since you state that it's to do with the brightness, then it's most likely an issue with the back light.
