World Wresting Federation began in 1980 by Vincent K. McMahon was real good with that name and Logo (below) with many good professional and stylish wrestlers and many ages like golden age, WWF new generation, monday night wars and the XFL. But why after two decades WWF was sued and World wresting Entertainment (WWE) with a different logo came to the surface? Thou' both are still the best entertainment brands and still many call WWE as WWF but why this name change happened..?
Whats the Reason?

the reason the wwf changed its name to the wwe was because the world wildlife fund(wwf)had the same initials. they took the then wwf wrestling to court to have them change their name because they were worried people would find it confusing to differentiate the 2. wwf wrestling lost the case and then changed their name to wwe. to be honest i never even heard of the world wildlife fund until wwe had to change their name because of them.

You've never heard of the World Wildlife fund, where have you been hiding, it was created in 1961 (September the 11th to be precise). The first president of the UK appeal was H.R.H. Prince Phillip, and that of the US appeal was Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The charity runs conservation projects in over a hundred countries, helping to save endangered species and habitat.
While I appreciate that there is probably less obvious entertainment value in saving animals I do feel that it's probably more important than watching a couple of guys, smash each other to pieces.
Perhaps next time you go to the WWE you could all go dresses as Pandas or Polar bears, get yourselves sponsored and then you can ligitimately wear the WWF logo and raise some useful cash for carity at the same time.

The World Wildlife Fund took issue with sharing their initials with such a violent product and decided to file a lawsuit for ownership of the initials. Needless to say, they came out victorious and World Wrestling Federation had to change their name to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). In my opinion, the letter F wasn't the only thing WWE lost in the transition. WWE seems to lack the same excitement and atmosphere that WWF displayed. Not to mention how unwatchable many WWF PPVs are thanks to the ridiculous amount of censoring and editing that's happened due to one lousy letter change.

It is because Vince McMahon decided to ignore a court order in the first place about how he branded the WWF overseas. It is all a mess and all that, but because of the World Wildlife Fun or that other WWF, there was a court case many years back, I want to say the 80s or the 90s, that said that Vince was not going to be able to promote the WWF under those three letters. It can be referred to as the World Wrestling Federation overseas but not WWF. However, Vince did it, so there was another lawsuit, where the company lost and had to change to WWE.
It did take a while for even the most diehard of the diehard of wrestling fans to get used to it. However, over time, most people did, except for those in the mainstream medium and on the street. Then again, they called all wrestling WWF. I have an old newspaper clipping from 1997 when Dennis Rodman was to team with Hollywood Hogan at Bash at the Beach 1997, which was in WCW. Yet, the newspaper claimed that Rodman signed with WWF. Wrestling will always be called WWF I think in many people. Perhaps the name change has killed the brand sightly, but really 2001-2002 prior to the name change was a really bad year. The Invasion really did help cause the momentum of the Attitude era to die in many ways, the mishandling, but that is another topic for another time.

World Wrestling Federation were faced with a lawsuit from the World Wildlife Federation because both of them used the same initials for campaigns so the World Wrestling Federation changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment.
