Shark Attack, Is There Another Side For This?

Shark - Grey reef shark

I think this is another news report of how swimmers are being attacked by sharks. This incident occurred in Egypt's Sharm el Sheikh, a popular destination for British tourists. I hate to say this but I feel that this is another sign of our misdeeds to our fragile environment. Sharks are apex predators by nature, the top of the underwater food chain which are known for their extraordinary aggressive and skillful predation. Unless, their survival is under serious threat from fishing and other human activities - I do not think they would be found near humans. I wonder if there's any or could be some control from the relevant authorities or environment groups to put a quota on human fishing activities before it is too late. What do you think? Any recommendations or observations? Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1334720/Four-tourists-badly-mauled-separate-shark-attacks-Sharm-el-Sheikh.html

Hey sky~ I read about this shark attack earlier today. It is possible that we are invading their space as you said, but it is still scary that they are coming in so close to land and to humans just the same. They say that this particular shark is an "endangered species" supposedly so that they are not interested in "killing" it, but getting it to go further out to the waters where it belongs. I'm still not sure exactly who belongs where at this point!

Opal26, Well, here's a logical poser: "Why would the sharks move inland when there are plenty of game and feed?" I am sure their livelihood is greatly affected to the extent that there's no choice for them but to find humans as their feed or game. Especially when there's nothing inland to offer except humans.

I live in Florida, close to the east coast of the U.S. as well as the Gulf coasts. Sharks are predators...they will attack and eat anything that gets in their way. We have a few shark attacks in Florida every year but there has been no increase that anyone has noticed so I don't believe that sharks are reacting in any way to humans. They just eat what is in front of them.

spalladino, I think if I may add - sharks do not just eat what is in front of them but they eat because they are hungry. And, they are hungry because men have broken their food chain which had forced them to move away from their barren open water sites towards inland. It is just chain reaction from there on.
