Doing nothing is also stressful?

Hello! Hectic schedule can be so tiring and stressful especially if your work needs so much thinking, it can cause the signs of aging to be visible but don't you think doing nothing can also be stressful? In my case, I think it is. Almost the same as doing so many things. If you just wasting your time looking at the clock every minute and then at the end of the day your not satisfied (because your not productive)- also stressful for me! What do you think?

Hello, Doing nothing is not stressful, but doing nothing creative is. I know that may sound weird. But the whole concept of meditation is actually based on doing nothing, or, inaction. In a sense, doing nothing and being still are not the same thing. Our mind hardly ever goes without thinking anything. We exhaust ourselves in thinking about unnecessary and unimportant things. With meditation you can control your thoughts. With this skill you can actually decide what to think and what not to. You can even decide the time when you're going to think about a certain thing. It's really very amazing. Now about the stress. Stress are caused by variation, a sudden change in habit. Anything that is slightly different from your daily schedule has the potential to produce stress. I remember writing an article on it http://www.bukisa.com/articles/409837_how-to-deal-with-stress you can read it if you want to. If you have a habit of staying busy all day, then doing nothing can be stressful to you. If someone, on the other hand, has the habit of doing nothing, then he will get stressed if someone asks him to do a job. This is all about variation of the pattern that you follow generally. However a mild stress sometimes acts like a motivation. While you're meditating, you are trying not to think about anything, anything at all, which is not as easy a task as it sounds. Thanks. God bless you.

Thank you for answering and sharing your thoughts, I learn something from your ideas...maybe meditation is the answer to avoid being stressed while doing nothing. ^_^... things always vary and situations are not the same most of the time so I guess we should find the most suitable or applicable way that will work for us. ^_^ thanks once again sir/ma'am getbiswa! ^_^

OMG, I so agree, see I am away in TN, as my boyfriend is an actor and doing a show. So all expenses paid for us while we stay here until the end of December. So I cannot go out to do my independent contracting work I do when I am home. So I am sitting around while he is rehearsing and working online and am so tired. I was just saying today, wow, I can't stop yawning, as all this sitting around is driving me nuts. The away time is certainly good for me as I have a tendency to over extend myself while working and this is certainly relaxation. But still I am so tired, I am yawning non-stop for days.. LOL.. I suppose when I get back I will complain of being tired of working. LOL..

Yes. I get stressful when I do nothing like waiting. I hate watching TV and in my mind I m not concentrating and thinking when I can make enough money? Whereas at work I am busy and thinking nothing until when I return home once again, I starting to feel stress? Wongchoiyee

Oh yes, I think this is true. Everyone has a need to be needed and if we are doing "nothing" than we are in fact not feeling needed or having any self worth. It is important for all of us to have a positive self esteem, so we can at least be productive in our day to day living.

I think that there are alot of people out there that get stressed out, who can not do the things that they use to as well as not doing anything. There are alot of people that would love a hectic life, as that way it would keep their mind busy, rather than people thinking about the problems that they have with their life.

yeah i agree, i feel the same way with you. when we dont do something and we think that we are not productive, we feel strestful. it like we are worried about we are not wisely use the time that given to us. but it has a little different with having strict schedule. in that case we use our time to do something, and make sure it a good thing to do. if not, it still same with wasting time.
