Recently, our traffic police announced that there will be 50% discount for those who pay their summons/fines within 15 days. And now everyone those who having summons/fines are rushing to pay off their summons/fines. This practice really have train us to not to pay summons/fines that we have and keep waiting for the traffic police to announce for discount.
What do you think of this, do you have discount on your summons/fines in your country? Do you think this is a good way to ask the people to pay their summons/fines?

There was one instance where the finance minister of our country declared that people who did not pay their taxes and have failed to pay for some time should pay within the given date. If they did, all cases against them for non payment of taxes would be withdrawn. Or atleast that is what I think was said. Because it was long time back and I do not remember. There was such a mad rush to pay taxes and the govt had to extend the date to allow so many other people to pay.

Yeah, I know. How bad that it has to resort to such methods to make people do what is right!

We don’t have any discounts announced as such and fine collection in my city is dismally poor. I think what police in your area has done is an excellent plan to recover fines. Money is what makes people dance and any discount is always welcome and here they are getting a whopping 50% off!!! The police coffers will fill up and the people will also benefit in terms of saving money…also, once people start paying the fines, they become more careful and try to avoid such mistakes in the future. If they don’t pay at all and get away with it, there’s no point in having rules really.

Yes, I agree, this is really a good move since there are too many people did not pay or do not want to pay the fines. At least the enforcer able to collect half of the fines. And it will be consider a good news for people who having a lot of fines. It help the people and it help the government.

A brief promotion like this might be an income producer for the locality that has issued the tickets. It would also get rid of the cost of collection of late fines.

Hi yspmyl,
This seems to be a better offer and a better deal. It is better than bribing these guys and escaping the reality. However here at my place, I dont think they would implement anything of this sort in the near future... New Year is approaching and it is a time for them to celebrate and party with our money
Cheers,
theSids.

Hi thesids,
Bribery happen everywhere in the world. Bribery occurs before you get a summon, and normally you will be given 2 option, they will ask you if you pay the fines, you will have to pay $100 if bribe only $50.
So, of course if you do not bribe, you will get the summons. And they always carry out road block check near certain big occasion like new year, so that they will have "extra income" to celebrate new year.
And many people who get the summons are not willing to pay and just keep waiting, and because of too many summons were not collected, they announced discount. This is not the first time, but it had been a few times already.

I think this is a great way to get people to pay, they have probably been paid more now than they would have by waiting for people to pay, very clever of them! Although maybe people will be waiting for the next discount to arrive.

I would like to take this opportunity to stress out that whatever the implementation of new promotion or new campaign by the relevant authorities, should be after their duly discussion and consideration.
As what I can understand from the local newspaper, the discount of the traffic compound will not apply to crossing junction during the red traffic light, speeding and so on.
The discount of the traffic compound will be a good news to reduce the burden of the public. Moreover, there is an increase of the gasoline price recently.
I think most of the traffic offenders like to clear their traffic compounds by the due date. If not, they are having a risk to be arrested, to be sued, to be fined, to be jailed, to be suspended for driving and so on.

Yes, this is consider a good move to reduce the publics' burden, especially when the price for everything went up especially the gasoline price which further caused some chain reaction.
At the same time, the government will be able to collect a huge amount of money within a short period and hope that they will use the money wisely and not simply dump it into any useless idea or project.
