I think that the most important thing about the relationship between a doctor and a patient is that the doctor needs to be understand and receptive to the needs of the patient. I also think that the doctor needs to be personable toward the patient. They need to be able to relate with each other on an equal level. I think that one of the biggest turn offs in a relationship with a doctor is that they sometimes talk like they are much better than the patient is.

It's best that they be husband and wife so that if anything happens, they get to have the ops for free, free medication or whatever. COme on, it's common sense, it's the hospital's policy that doctors and patient can't have any forms of relationship other than that. The same applies for nurses and patients. However, doctors and nurses are allowed to date each other.

With my regular doctor I won't be seeing him for along time! The last two visits he treated me like crap and made me cry! I know my doctor is concerned about my weight but don't get so insensitive you make me cry! I know I have a problem wth my weight! He needs to be less of a jerk next time!

I guess, it should one of a professional relastionship- beyond that nothing, but it must one of trust by the patient and caring and concern one by the doctor. It must not get too personal.

I think a doctor that is knowledgeable, professional but that can be down to earth and easy to talk to. If a patient is intimidated by his doctor then he may not be able to ask certain questions or be forthright about things that could mean the difference between a sound diagnosis and the lack of one.

Well, a doctor should give informed information to patient about any practical and useful medical advice. An patient should respect his/her own doctor, and take advice as needed. Nothing more or less than that.

Simple, the best is respect each other, I myself been to the doctor very often and as a patient I ask a lot about my illness and the doctor should answer not frowning or is patient in answering.

An ideal relationship for me between a doctor and his/her patient is from friends to a professional level. Sometimes It becomes business when involving a big procedure that has to be done and some medicines and professional fees that cost excessively. It depentds. It would be better to put it on a professional level
