This morn I had been to the vegetable market as usual, onion price has gone up to 40 rupees a kilogram,
but at Nasik (from where they come) it is around 10 rupees only, similarly potato cost is doubled; the seller says it is due unexpected rains.
The government is silent over this issue.
What is the scene in your place?
In such cases does the government takes adequate steps to control price of essential commodities?
Please share.
Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Hi professor!.
Vegetable price is raising here and not as beautiful as usual because the rain make every thing really prone to disease. Every thing so expensive right know from rice to hot peppers.
I am still lucky able to buy but I hears so many people out there already made adjustment to this situation by change rice into others like cassava which much cheaper.

Price gouging is something that I think we see frequently around here. An example would be generators. We are about to face the first major winter storm of the season and they are predicting ice. If the ice does in fact fall and knocks out people's electricity, it means that the price of a generator at the home repair stores will skyrocket. Now, I've seen where you could buy one for just a couple of hundred dollars during the summer, but if there is an ice storm the same model will be about one thousand dollars. It is an issue of supply and demand. Also the cost of transportation.

Yes, the prices are going up here and set to go up even higher in 2011. I think rain/climate is only a small part of it... I think it is a result of government reactions to the credit crunch. I am no financial expert, but I would guess that because more money has been printed by most government around the world to try and protect their currency, the transporting goods around the world is going to be more expensive, as commodities like oil always tend to rise for the great oil companies to protect their assets especially in the light that it is becoming more and more difficult to find as many wells run dry. Then there's the billions that BP had to pay out to ward off the polution in the U.S. They are going to want to claw that money back, and are probably doing so in higher prices. So for each country to export and import or even take to market in the country of origin, they need oil for the ships, planes and trains.
I may have this all wrong, but it seems that rising inflation is only at its beginnings and us ordinary people like you and I are going to pay for the failed investments. Maybe it would be advisable for us all to turn to our own skills, whatever they are and bring back some sort of bartering system.

Same here, the prices of our daily food here had risen a few cents recently due to raining season. We can't blame them, as planting vegetables is not an easy task during raining season. So what i do is, i shop less expensive vegetables during these times. I still make sure my family have enough vegetables to eat, only i will spend more my money into vegetables that not hike up much. After all, our health is the most important matters to us.

Hi Professor, It seems that prices are going up everywhere and most governments can do little to control it. This is a time when we need the the brightest minds in government but they are not always there. Sometimes too, a politician's hands are tied because of power exerted by big business. We are rapidly reaching a time when it well be necessary for everyone to place the well being of all before self interest. Blessings.

We use Euro. Though Germany is a rich country it should help the poor Euro zone countries. because of this we have problem. all the burdens come on the public's heads. So hear is also the same problem. Bringing up the children and fulfilling their wishes is a big challenge here.
