Why do certain websites feel its necessary to charge for free programing?

I was just on Hulu and they wanted me to become a subscribed member to watch a full episode of a television program. One that I can get for free! Its on basic digital channels. So I wondered why this would be the case. I think everyone is out to make a buck, but when they try to make it on a free program that really makes me angry. What do you think of this?

They probably are trying to take advantage of those who are not aware that they can get programmes for free. I've come across many things on the internet, documents, ebooks, software etc. that is available free, but is also being sold by companies who are trying to capitalize on the fact that not everyone will know that these things can be had for free elsewhere. xoxo Cyne

That is crazy because everyone knows you can get it for free. I wonder how they stay in business. I doubt that anyone would be falling for this and paying money out. Yes, everyone is out to make a buck and I still can't believe we have to pay for TV if we want to watch good shows on TV. Its a total outrage to me.
