Makes me PROUD!

So, the roomie found a new Doctor Who novel. It is with the latest Doctor and his companion, Amy Pond.
Now, I put the cd in my car player and started listening.
As SOON as I heard who wrote it, I turned it off and called the roommate.
"Did you realized WHO wrote this new story?" I asked. "Michael Moorcock!"
"So," she asked.
"Don't you KNOW who Michael Moorcock is?" I asked.
"No."
"He's a GRAND MASTER of Science FICTION!" I exclaimed.
"Well, he sounds like he is imitating Douglas Adams," she told me.
Michael Moorcock may not be as well KNOW as Douglas Adams, but he's been around a LOT longer!
So, I went on line and sent her links to his page, and the page for Grand Masters of Science Fiction - he was awarded G.M. in 2008.
He's also, for the last 20 or so years, what I call "a local yokel" for the resident SF writers in the Austin area. I believe he actually lives down in Bastrop. He is, however, from Britain.
Now, about what makes me proud.
You see. Here in Austin there are what those of us in the media and comic book fandoms consider Science Fiction Snobs. There are people, generally males, who think that anything besides written science fiction isn't good enough.
"Oh, you watch Doctor Who..." with a sniff they put their noses in the air.
But OBVIOUSLY, Michael Moorcock is a renown writer of science fiction, he's a Grand Master after all.
And he's written a Doctor Who novel!
Even WORSE, he's done some comic books!
I can just see those snobs gnashing their teeth!
So, what has made you proud lately?
Go ahead, tell me about your cute kids and grand kids, I can take it! Heck, tell me about your cute cats! I put a camo collar on Sparky today, he is NOT amused!

hi elicbxn I have no pets to brag about but one of my friends here has a Lapsa Apso lord I do not know how to spell it but he is not just cute, hes a love. I have never met a strange dog who was so loving and personable. She has a younger resident walking her Andy for her and he brought him over to me. Andy climbed up beside me and let me talk to him and pet him, then when it was time for the young man to take Andy back to Sharon his owner, Andy refused to get down and got in my lap. lol The young man had to lift him down and he laughed as he tugged on his leash and Andy was trying to get back up on my lap.I am overweight and an elderly woman and so is
sharon so maybe he thought I was a relative or something. lol It was love at first sight for us both.He is shaggy haired and a perfect specimen of his breed, pure bred in fact.

I have not read a Doctor Who novel in very, very long time. It's good to hear about Michael Moorcock penning a novel for the series. I have heard of him but I have not read any of his books. I didn't know he was a grand master, but maybe I did. not to sound like a snob lol.

Wow, you hit the jackpot!! I've been reading Michael Moorcock for decades and he is, indeed, the King of SF!! I haven't read SF for years but he was always my favorite. I didn't know there were Dr. Who books out so I will have to look for them at the library, if they have them.
I recorded the Christmas Dr. Who last night and will watch it tonight. I also saw and enjoyed Dr. Who at the Proms, about the music of the show and it was great.
I'm proud this year about how much I squirreled away in my savings account. All my online earnings went in there with the exception of gift cards which I earned and aren't convertible to cash, which I used to buy Christmas gifts with. I now have enough in the bank that an emergency won't force me to borrow money or get into debt. I'm proud of myself for protecting my future.

and a very cool thing to be proud of!
We watched The Doctor last night, and it was AWESOME! The people who review Doctor Who said its probably Moffett's second best work, right after Blink. I would have to agree, maybe better, because its got more of The Doctor in it!
