Oscar Wilde once said, 'We're all in the gutter, but some of us are loking at the stars.' What do you think he meant by this? I know what I think but am looking for other points of view.

That we are all given the same chance in life, but as long as you have dreams and aspirations you have hope. With hope all things are possible.

Well, I don't know what he meant by it, but if I'd have said it, I would have meant that some people are living poorly, and they have their faces in the mud, but others are living poorly, but they hold their heads high. I think the first answerer has it more accurate than me though.

It didn't matter about accuracy, just what you thought it meant. Thanks for your answer.

I think it means we all start off the same, we all have as much potential as each other but those who are looking at the stars are those who can see that life can be better no matter where you begin.

I believe that it means something like we are all in the same situation. We all have our ups and downs, but some of us choose to make the best of them and strive for something great. Some of us dream of better things.
