ehow just really bites!

I just stopped by to check my ehow account. I can do anything BUT write more articles. When they did their big "change" I had only been on a short while. I had written only three articles which had all been published and viewed. Since I didn't have the big 5 I was booted. I cannot write articles, can only view. I don't understand why they didn't just close the thing down! Ugh!!

I had 146 articles on the site and then all of a sudden last year they said I could not write anymore but I could keep earning. I was making about 150 dollars per month in residual earnings. Then last month they said they were eliminating the articles from those that were not allowed to write anymore so they said I could move my articles to another site or I could sell them to them. They made me an offer of $998 and I said yes. They will pay me in June. I like the money but I would rather keep earning the residuals since that would pay indefinitely. Now I am looking for other writing sites to join.
I think you can go to ehow and apply to be a writer. I am not sure where the link is though. Good luck to you!

I really got burned by ehow. Actually if I am doing a search now and an ehow article is listed in the findings I will not even go there. However, I did think about trying to write there again. But it really made me mad so I decided to just forget about them and divisify another way. I am sorry to hear that they did this to you. It does not speak well of them and taints their reputation. Perhaps we should get a group together to form a boycott!! lol! ...not that it would work but it's a nice vindictive thought anyway.
Shame is it would only hurt other writers...

I had 100 articles on eHow before they closed their Writers Compensation Program. So far I have left my articles up there, but in the meantime I lost three articles to their "sweeps" and so I have rewritten those articles and used them elsewhere. Those 97 articles that are left on eHow pay me a little less than a dollar a day so for the time being they will stay.
Demand Studios sent me an invitation to write for them which I declined. I am a senior editor on another site, and I don't need some person getting paid $2 to edit an article trying to "correct" my impeccable grammar when the editor himself or herself writes in comma splices and textspeak. I have seen examples of this posted elsewhere on the internet and unless I were starving would not consider them. I prefer to write for residuals as I know that over five years my articles will make far more than $15 each on average.

It sounds like you are doing pretty good overall anyway! I am guessing that my articles are not making any money. I suppose I could go see but I just assume since there are only three there that any earnings would be too small anyway.
I haven't heard of Demand Studios. I write for textbroker and do fair. I also write for a couple of people just independently and do fair as well.

There are a lot of places where you can write articles online for residuals or upfront pay. I tend to write for residuals as my day job pays really well but I'd love to supplement my retirement income. I hope in five more years to be making $50 per day from residuals--then I can start taking it easy!

I know nothing about them, not sure why they would do such a thing. I am so sorry.

I signed up to it a very long time ago, and never did go back. I remember people having trouble, but cannot remember what it was, but just decided not to mess with it. Have you contacted them to find out why they did it? I would send them a note telling them what you think about what they did. It might help.

It's a writing site. basically you write all "how to" papers. It can be on anything pretty much but in a "how to" format! it was starting to be fun but then they changed admin or something..

Yeah same thing happened to me. I never kept up with them anyway. I moved all my articles to squidoo so its probably for the best. I dont even remember getting any notice from them. Maybe it went to my spam folder?

Sorry for the confusion. When I say move, I meant rewrote them on squidoo and even added more content. Try to find some way to link the ehow articles to your new sites, where ever that may be. That way you dont lose the readers you built up.

I didn't know you could just move articles. I would gladly do that. In the short time I was there I had quite a few visits and recommendations onsite.

You know what, I felt the same, but somehow, they are still active and people might want to share their knowledge and what they know from others. Maybe there are some computer tricks that we ought to learn from others. Anyway, if it continue to pay, I won't mind to work there occasionally.

If I was still able to work there I would be working there too. But I was booted for no reason.. I had just started and was kind of liking it. Now I cannot get my articles, or my money (it wasn't much of course!).. it just seemed like a strange way to run business... and I got burned!

was eying the site a few years back, but because they do not accept members outside of the U.S. it was a real turn off for me , sorry but I was just thinking I had so much to contribute (modesty aside), so I really don't know what's going on in there
really hope they did not limit it to U.S. users to get paid or join, otherwise I would have contributed my opinion to your wonderful post, good luck friend

I'm sure you would have added some wonderful articles and ideas! It is a great site to findout new things and even explore old. they just don't have it together too well.

It's been a year or so ago, that they started going through Demand Studios for all content. You have to apply and write through Demand to get articles on eHow. I had written a few for ehow - don't remember how many - and they invited me to write for Demand Studios, but I turned them down. "Demand" is a very appropriate name, so I hear. The system looked difficult to me, but they do pay fair for the type of articles they want.
I don't think anyone can contribute directly to ehow any more.

Personally maybe this is why I have stopped utilizing and Writing for sites that pay like this due to so many changes happening all of the time, and harder to earn any $$ from them. I have been trying to actually find magazines, etc. that pays where I could try submitting some of my work too, and hope for the Best from there. Because when you submit something online taking that chance it could be a hard one for sure.

I myself am a member of eHow and after the big change, even though I had written and published over 20 articles, they wouldn't let me write more articles unless I submitted a resume, added references and a lot more stuff like that. If only I joined eHow from the beginning and made money while I could. Though I did notice that if you have any articles in the draft stage from before the change you can still publish those.

I had just published three articles. But I didn't see any where to send a resume or references. i would be glad to do so if they would let me write there.

Yeah. I guess somebody bought it out or they changed admin. Most likely they were getting too big to handle. Anyway, I can still go to the site but I cannot write new articles or make any money.. so I'm boycotting!

I am not a member or have heard of this site but I am very glad you have warned me away. I am looking for some money making sites but do not want to waste my time on bogus crap.
