So I bought a device where I can hook up my VCR to my computer to convert my videos to dvd (& then I can give away my videos & declutter at the same time
) My laptop won't read the program but my pc will - the only problem is that my pc doesn't have a dvd burner...do you think it could be possible for me to copy my videos onto the pc & transfer them for burning via USB?

That should be possible to do. They will just be files I guess and any sort of file should be able to transfer on and off of a USB drive. It just depends on the size of your USB stick and the file sizes as to whether they will fit on there. That is the only problem you should have.
I just realised that this discussion was 4 weeks ago, so you have probably already sorted it out! I am trying to catch up with my emails.
Where did you get this device from and what is it called? I have a lot of home videos on VCR that I want to transfer to digital.

I am hoping that I can get them transferred - even if it's just to the pc...I have had a friend look at my laptop but haven't had it sorted yet...can you tell I have fallen behind in my emails again as I am 2 weeks late in responding to you
.
I can't remember the name of the program I got to convert videos to dvd but it was through a mail order thing - their website is http://www.innovations.com.au - NOT a referral link...they even have staroes which will convert your tapes & records to cd too.

LOL, I still have some from December in my inbox that I have been meaning to respond to!
Was this the device? http://www.innovations.com.au/Product_Detail.aspx?ParentCategoryID=166&CategoryID=40&ProductID=73996

If you have a dvd burning tool on your laptop (which you probably do have) it will work well. But would the videos you created fit in a usb? If it will then there are no other problems with it.

I was hoping someone would say that...my USB stick is 2GB & I was planning on cropping the videos to remove the previews (most of my videos are ex-rentals that were bought from the video store). Worst case scenario, I will have to buy a bigger usb memory stick.

It sounds like you want to be able to make a direct connection between the two computers. But why not just use a jump drive? Even 4 GB ones are not very expensive and occasionally 8 GB ones are pretty cheap on sale. If the files are too large for these, then spit them with winrar or something and put them back together after the transfer.

I did actually mean to transfer the video using a memory stick...thanks for the input, i am sure it will work after what everyone has said.
