Some time ago i started discussion about persimon seeds (http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2453273.aspx). Now i would like to share my joy with all of you and tell that persimon seeds which i planted into little pots and placed on sill have sprouts! After new year celebration i wanted to do something good for my persimon (hurma) seeds in pots, so i bought more vegetable land, took 3 bigger pots to replanted them. If you would see my smile after i saw little white sprouts coming from seeds! I was and still am happy, but there comes the next problem. Maybe some MyLot users know how they grow and are they "female" or "male" plants?

Persimmons are trees and are usually grafted in commercial orchards or in plants that you would buy in the garden centre but they can be grown from seed (as you have demonstrated). You won't be able to tell whether they are male or female until they flower and that may not be for several years. You will need one of each, of course, if you want fruit, though some varieties will set seedless fruit if they are not pollinated. Here is a page which gives some pretty good instruction (but neglects to say how big they grow and how far apart they should be planted): http://www.ehow.com/how_4443281_grow-persimmon-trees-seed.html Another site (a technical one concerned with fruit that can be grown in the USA) says that "The persimmon is a multitrunked or single-stemmed deciduous tree to 25 ft. high and at least as wide." (so you should plant them about 25 ft apart if you expect them to grow to maturity): http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/persimmon.html
