Don't you think? During these modern days, there aren't much people who are gentlemen. There are times that I think like that..But everyday I can see that it's not completely gone. There are still people who lets you walk through the door first, pays for you, nice to elders, respects teachers, gives the seat for another.. ect.

Hello lady1993, The rules of etiquette vary between countries. Here a man has to walk through the door first in a public place and to hold the door to the woman. If it is a private place, the woman walks through the door first. If etiquette was taught at school, social life would be easier, but it is not the case, and etiquette is not enough. I learned that at the age of 9 or 10, when I was walking on a sidewalk. An old woman was coming and, as I was a well-educated little boy, I walked near the street. It is etiquette : when you cross a woman or an elder, you have to walk near the street and let her/him walk near the houses. She stopped me and said that I was a polite boy, but could be even more polite if I was using my brain, that the sidewalk was narrow and the walls were dirty, and then I had to apply something called 'courtesy' and to walk near the houses . She ruined the rest of my life : spending a lot of time to evaluate a situation and to act like a courteous man, I often forget to be polite , and it is the fault of old women if "there are not much people who are gentlemen" . Sorry for that joke -- I could not resist --, and happy new year Milady !

I don't think that men should be polite for a woman just because they are the man. I never understood why the man is expected to always hold the door open for the girl and things like that. Why can't a woman be polite too?
